Chhattisgarh polls: Candidate dies in road mishap

A Bharatiya Manavadhikar Party candidate, contesting from Kurud assembly constituency died in a road mishap on Dhamtari-Kurud road on Tuesday.

Raipur: A Bharatiya Manavadhikar Party candidate, contesting from Kurud assembly constituency in Dhamtari district, died in a road mishap on Dhamtari-Kurud road on Tuesday, police said.
"Yogendra Khare (25) died on the spot and his friend was injured when their motorcycle was hit by a tanker truck from behind near Puri village this evening," Dhamtari SP Akbar Ram Korram said. Besides Khare, there are 11 other candidates in the fray for the seat which will go to polls on November 19 in the second and final phase. The incident took place when Khare and his friend were returning after giving some details related to election to the office of district election officer in Dhamtari town, he said. The injured, identified only as Chintamani, was admitted to a local hospital, he said. Meanwhile, officials said election will not be cancelled in the constituency as the candidate was not from a recognised political party. "We have received information regarding the incident. Election will not be cancelled in Kurud as Yogendra Khare was fighting under the banner of a party which is not recognised," Collector N S Mandavi said. "However, we will seek the guidance of the Election Commission in this connection", he said.
