CD row: EC refutes Kejriwal’s claim, says no clean chit to AAP

The Election Commission on Wednesday said that no clean chit has been given to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in sting operation by portal media Media Sarkar in which the party leaders were allegedly shown accepting funds illegally.

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Wednesday said that no clean chit has been given to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in sting operation by portal media Media Sarkar in which the party leaders were allegedly shown accepting funds illegally. Election Commissioner HS Brahma told reporters that the authenticity of the sting operation tapes could not be established and unless the AAP challenges the veracity of the tapes, no clean chit can be given to the party. Also Read: Sting operation row: Court to consider AAP`s plea on Jan 25 After accessing the raw footage of the sting operation, AAP had earlier said that the tapes were doctored, saying that its leader have not indulged themselves in any wrongdoings. The Aam Aadmi Party has filed a case of criminal defamation against the news portal MediaSarkar saying that the edited footage was shown in a way to put AAP leaders in poor light. Party convener Arvind Kejriwal has also claimed that Rs 1400 crores were distributed to a few media houses to defame AAP ahead of the December 4 Delhi Assembly polls. The sting video footage showed Shazia Ilmi, AAP candidate from south Delhi`s RK Puram seat and party leader Kumar Bishwas allegedly agreeing to help a reported conducting the operation without documents when offered donations in cash. The sting operations were also done on AAP candidates from Kondli (Manoj Kumar), Sangam Vihar (Dinesh Mohaniya), Okhla (Irfan Ullah Khan), Rohtas Nagar (Mukesh Hooda), Deoli (Prakash) and Palam (Bhawna Gaur).
