Delhi employees to get paid leave for polling Wednesday

Delhi voters working in the National Capital Region will get a paid leave on Wednesday after the Election Commission directed the employers of public and private companies to allow them to exercise their franchise.

December 4 has been declared as a public holiday in the national capital in view of the Delhi polls. All government offices and local/ autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings under the government of National Capital Territory of Delhi will remain close on the occasion of Assembly polls. "We have asked district administrations of neighbouring states to give Delhi employees leave on the election day. If any employer deducts salaries of such employees or force them to come to office, action will be taken against them," Delhi`s Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev Dev. To ensure that officials on poll duty along with general public do not face any hurdle in reaching polling stations, special services of Metro and DTC buses have been made available. Metro will start its service from 4.30 am on December 4 while buses will start plying from 3 am from specific terminals.
