Sawai Madhopur: BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked people to recognise the "true character" of Congress alleging that the "divide and rule" gene existed in the century-old party`s DNA.
"There is a need to identify the character, culture, traditions and thoughts of the Congress now. It is of divisive mentality... This is in its character," Modi said while addressing a public meeting here.
"They (Congress` leaders) never think to unite people. They never know how to link languages but only know how to break... This is their style," Modi pointed out.
The Gujarat Chief Minister alleged that the country is on the verge of a disaster because of the Congress` "divide and rule" policy which the party has been using to garner vote.
He further held the Congress responsible in creating differences between Hindus and Muslims and encouraging caste differences which resulted in riots and clashes.
"Congress first divided the country and created differences between North and South... Between Hindus and Muslims as well as between castes which resulted in riots and clashes," Modi said at the rally in support of four candidates including Maharani Rajmata of Jaipur Diya Kumari for the December 1 Assembly polls.
"These prove that the Congress has been doing vote bank politics based on divide and rule policy and because of that the nation is standing on the verge of a disaster," Modi alleged.
