Mumbai/ Shirdi: Residents of the temple town of Shirdi are living in fear that a serial killer is on the prowl. He targets the homeless and smashes there head with a stone.
Three bodies were found yesterday at separate places within a radius of one km of the Sai Baba temple. The killings have taken the toll of such murders in the last month to six. Two others have survived with head injuries but are clueless who attacked them.
The police suspect the murders to be the handiwork of a serial killer, a psychopath, who attacks the homeless in the age group of 50-55 and brutally kills them by crushing their head.
Yesterday, one body was found near Hotel Kalasai on the Ahmednagar-Manmad Road. The other was lying next to the government guest house. The third was discovered close to the Dnyaneshwar Mandir.
Apart from the three bodies, an injured man was found lying in an unconscious state at the Shirdi railway station and was admitted to hospital.
Two bodies, of an aged man and a woman, were found about a fortnight back at the Shirdi railway station and the method of killing appeared to be similar as their heads had also been smashed.
A similar case of serial killing was reported in Kolhapur city last month. Meanwhile, the Shirdi police have also released a sketch of the suspected killer and a case has been registered.
Earlier, police had detained a person in connection with the killing of two persons at the railway station, but let him off as they could not establish his role in the crime.
