Congress to set up manifesto implementation panel in Jharkhand

New Delhi: Seeking to sort out coordination issues with its alliance ruling partner JMM in Jharkhand and ensure proper implementation of programmes, Congress is setting up a high-level manfiesto implementation committee for the state.

The committee will be a follow-up to the Jharkhand Pradesh Coordination Committee of the party that was formed today, sources said.

The six-member Coordination Committee is headed by AICC in-charge for Jharkhand BK Hariprasad and has former Union Minister Subodhkant Sahay, PCC chief Sukhdeo Bhagat, CLP leader Rajinder Singh, AICC secretary Tarachand Bhagora and ex-Speaker Alamgir Alam as members, an AICC release issued by party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.

The Coordination Committee aims for establishing regular dialogue and exchange of views between state party leaders and Congress ministers in the alliance government with JMM that was formed last month finalizing a pact with the tribal party for five states for next Lok Sabha polls.

The manifesto is expected to have a larger role, the sources said.

Governance had been an issue in Jharkhand and Congress was earlier wary of supporting JMM to form a government owing to past experience of propping up independent Madhu Koda as Chief Minister.

The upcoming manifesto committee will be chaired by a JMM leader while Congress will be represented in it by a Cabinet Minister, PCC President, CLP leader and AICC secretary Bhagora. JMM will have two more members and RJD one, the sources said.

The panel will see that development programmes are thoroughly implemented as Congress is keen to go to next Lok Sabha election on the plank of development.

Hemant Soren, son of JMM chief Shibu Soren, was sworn in as Chief Minister on July 13 after the nearly six-month-long central rule was revoked in the state.
