Karunanidhi wants Centre to connect 1974 agreement with 1984 accord
Karunanidhi drew Centre`s attention to a report, which connected 1984 accord on 13th amendment with 1974 agreement for ceding of Kachchatheevu to SL.
Chennai: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Monday drew the Centre`s attention to a media report, which connected 1984 accord on 13th amendment with 1974 agreement for ceding of Kachchatheevu island to Sri Lanka and wanted the Centre and Congress leaders to think and act over it.
He referred to `Desiya Murasu` editor Gopanna`s article, which wanted the Centre not to honour 1974 agreement on ceding of Kachchatheevu, if Lankan President Rajapaksa refused to honour 1984 Indo Lankan Agreement on 13th amendment.
"The Centre and Congress leaders should think over it and act," Karunanidhi said, a day after Lankan External Affairs Minister G L Peiris said in Delhi that ceding of Kachchatheevu was a settled matter.
The article also said that India had the responsibility to prevent Rajapaksa from diluting the 13th amendment as agreed in the 1984 accord.
The DMK chief also referred to his case filed in the Supreme Court over the issue and hoped that a "good decision" answered people like Peiris.
