Telangana fallout: More Congress MLAs resign in Andhra Pradesh

Zee Media Bureau

Hyderabad: Unhappy with the Centre's decision to create a separate state of Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, nine Congress MLAs and three MLCs resigned from their posts on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 14 more Congress ministers have also threatened to resign today.

According to reports, the fresh warning from Congress ministers comes a day after six of the party legislators from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions tendered their resignations to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

There are nearly 40 ministers in Reddy's government.

If the resignations continue, the Congress government in the state could be reduced to minority intensifying the political crisis in the state further.

While residents and leaders of Telangana, which includes the IT hub of Hyderabad, have been ecstatic with the fruition of a five-decade-long movement for statehood, the other two regions of the state, coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, say they have been betrayed.

The announcement on Telangana has triggered violent protests against the decision to divide Andhra Pradesh and rocked Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions for the second day today.

On the other side, united Andhra supporters have taken out rallies and prevented public transport buses from plying.

Protests were reported from the districts of Krishna, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa and Anantapur.

While the hunger strike launched by students in Visakhaptnam at the Andhra University entered the third day today, lawyers refrained from attending courts today as a part of their 72-hour boycott in Visakhapatnam and other districts.

Some pro-united Andhra outfits have been observing a 72-hour shutdown at places like Visakhapatnam.

Government-run RTC sources said they were operating in the city and on long route bus services since morning and there was no damage to the vehicles in the district since yesterday.

According to police, the situation was peaceful and no untoward incidents have been reported so far today. Educational institutions and commercial establishments remained shut at several places, reports reaching here said.

Protests were held outside the offices and residences of some public representatives demanding their resignation to mount pressure on the Centre.

However, no major incident of violence was reported in the morning hours, officials said.

At least three policemen were injured when they were pelted with stones by protesters in Anantapur town yesterday.

Apart from incidents of stone throwing at police and some government offices in Anantapur town and damage to statues besides rallies and demonstrations (during the bandh), the situation was peaceful in other parts of Seemandhra yesterday.

Central paramilitary forces and state police were deployed in large numbers for the three-phase Gram Panchayat elections that concluded yesterday.

2 days of Agitation, demolition of 3 statues, resignation threat of MLA`s and MP`s scares congress home minister to postpone formation of Telangana from monsoon Session of parliament to winter session. Home minister says No to Telangana bill in monsoon Session. Biased Seemandhra CM fails to maintain law and order in Seemandhra. Can Ministers of government to join protests? Any form of protest is a revolt on party leadership. Congress party need to figure out if Seemandhra leaders should continue in congress when there leaders statues are dimolished. Do AP need these leaders at all?

A great thing can happen is if all MLA resings and congress comes into minority central may rethink on separation since its basically for for gaining power by divide & rule. Really sad such Govt still stands still and all sick peoples supports them, but next time only & only BJP with MODI no Congress no Other since congress has enough black money to buy others to form govt again.

Sir, This issue is 100% political and based on vote bank politics. Just for fulfilling ambitions of few persons and malafide intention, the effect of this would be severe and may be out of control. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel had made this country as ONE and again today`s leaders breaking in parts. Surprisingly, there is no any constituitional authority or commission to look after all this...! Supreme Court and President must intervene in the matter.

Congress is damaging the federal structure of this country. Coastal andhra people feel betrayed by this government and fellow countrymen. If not now..may be after a decade or two this will certainly seed a case for independent soverign country for Coastal Andhra!

Congress can restrain CM Kiran Kumar from taking any drastic step against splitting of AP by showing CBI stick. It cannot use the same trick with 14 ministers. AP will prove to be Congress party`s Waterloo.

WHAT I SEE THAT THE MINISTERS WHO MAKE A HUE AND CRY IS MAY BE BECAUSE OF THEIR PERSONAL BENEFITS CONCERNING TELANGANA STATE! WHEN ONE CHECKS THE HISTORY IT IS EASY TO FIND THAT THE STATE OF ANDHRA PRADESH WAS CREATED IN 1956 THERE BY MERGING THE TELENGANA REGION IN TO IT!!! WHAT THE CONGRESS HAS DONE IS ONLY REVERSED IT TO ITS ORIGINAL EXISTENCE!!!! IN THE INTEREST OF PEOPLE OF THE OF THE REGION IT WILL BE BETTER TO CO EXIST AS THE LANGUAGE IS SAME THROUGH OUT THE STATE (ANDHRA) AAND BOTH CAN LIVE PEACEFULLY AND CONTINUE TO PROGRESS!!!!!!

mass resignations by congress ministers is ununderstandable. UPA has taken a prudent decision by solving 5 decade old telangana issue which has taken a toll of more than 1000 young people and students.TELANGANA MOVEMENT IS PEOPLE`S MOVEMENT. And the one created in seemaandhra is purely ARTIFICIAL.

Please be reasonable in you comment..you may favour a movment but learn to respect other movements aswell.

Why you haven`t questioned the same when minsters from telangana protesting? Aren`t people from Andhra and Rayalaseema have rights to protest?
