WhatsApp will stop working on these phones soon– Is your phone in the list?

New Delhi: Instant messaging app WhatsApp has updated its support feature, updating the list of smartphones that will stop working soon.

In the run up to offering better service to consumers, the Facebook-owned chat messenger will reportedly stop working on a host of devices, the list of which has been freshly updated.

The reason, WhatsApp says is because “we'll no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time.”

The following operating systems are no longer supported:

    Android versions older than 2.3.3
    Windows Phone 8.0 and older
    iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
    Nokia Symbian S60
    BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10

For the following operating systems, you can no longer create new accounts. However, you'll be able to continue using WhatsApp on:

    Nokia S40 until December 31, 2018
Android versions 2.3.7 and older until February 1, 2020
iOS 7 and older until February 1, 2020

If you currently use an older operating system, WhatsApp recommend upgrading to a newer version, or to one of the following:

    Android running OS 4.0+
    iPhone running iOS 8+
    Windows Phone 8.1+

Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time.

There is currently no option to transfer your chat history between platforms. However, WhatsApp provides the option to send your chat history attached to an email.
