Montek to review economy ahead of G-20 meet New Delhi, Nov 07: Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia will review the Indian economy with economic experts on Saturday to take stock of the current situation in view of the global meltdown and also firm up country's stand for the G-20 summit to be held in Washington.

The economic review meeting, in addition to the members of the Planning Commission, will be attended by the heads of the National Council for Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) and such other think tanks, official sources said.

The review meeting assumes significance as the country has started feeling the pinch of the global economic slowdown and even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently said, "a crisis of this magnitude was bound to affect our economy and it has. International credit has shrunk with adverse affect on our corporates and our banks".

The IEG, in its monthly report, had said that global crisis could derail the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth targets envisaged in the 11th Five Year Plan.

In addition, Ahluwalia will also try to elicit views of the economic experts on the global financial crisis to firm up India's stand for the G-20 summit meeting on November 15, which among others is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Singh.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who is in Brazil for a meeting with his counterparts of G-20 countries, earlier held a meeting of experts on the global crisis.
