New Delhi: With rising prices of household items and security in their minds, housewives in Delhi were also glued to the TV sets while carrying out their daily chores to witness the change.
The women, many of whom would have been in their teens when Shiela Dikshit took over the reign of Delhi, intensely followed the counting results on their television sets.
In the minds of many who cast their vote on December 4, safety of the women and increasing budget of their household were the prime issues on their minds.
Rounds of poll results broadcast by the TV channels remained a topic of discussion, as the housewives kept exchanging thoughts and reactions and debated about the prospective winner in their buildings and locality.
Shashi Thakur, an R K Puram resident cancelled her appointment with her doctor as she did not want to miss the end moment results being declared.
"As I was preparing food, I was keeping track of which party was trailing and which was winning," she said.
For 54-year old Mahima Das, a resident of Trilokpuri, it was the safety of her daughters which concerned her the most.
"Delhi is increasingly becoming unsafe for women. So many rape cases have happened in the recent past. I get worried and start calling my daughter if she delays returning home or doesn`t take my call," said Das.
For newly married Rakhi, a resident of Mehrauli, knowing the fate of the National Capital was of utmost importance.
Her husband fed her with the inputs of the development from time to time.
"We are a lower-middle class family and my husband`s income is falling short in running the household because of the rising prices of vegetables and household items. A change in government is important," she said.
Never bothered about politics, Hassina too was concerned about the election results this time.
Complaining about the inflation, she said, "You see onions and potatoes are essential ingrediants of every meal and their prices are spiralling day by day. A change was necessary."
Majority of the housewives came out of their houses and gathered in their colonies to rejoice AAP`s victory.
The smile on their faces spoke about their satisfaction with the results. On December 4, 34.6 lakh of the women voters out of 78.1 lakh registered cast their ballot recording 65.1 per cent women voter turn-out.
