Maruti Suzuki Ignis first look review – Check out video

Now we’ve brought you plenty of articles telling you what the Ignis is all about. While we’re waiting for a drive and, of course, the price, CarDekho’s editor-in-chief, Kartikeya Singhee, has checked out the Ignis in the metal.

Through the video below, we ask and answer some pertinent questions – Who is the Ignis for? Does the unconventional design work? How does the Ignis connect with Suzukis of the past while targeting the modern buyer?

If you’re still wondering what’s on offer with the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, here’s a quick breakdown:

Engines

The Ignis will share its engine options – i.e., the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel – with the Baleno. While a five-speed manual gearbox will come as standard, both engine options can be paired with an automated manual transmission as well, which will be offered only with the Delta and Zeta variants. In fact, the Ignis is the only Maruti hatchback that gets the option of a diesel automatic powertrain.

Features

On the safety front, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts will come as standard on all variants. Other standard features include 15-inch wheels, air conditioning, front two power windows, a 12V socket and tilt-adjust for the steering. Opt for the range-topping Alpha grade, an you get the 7-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and navigation, LED headlights and automatic climate control.

Design

You don’t need us to tell you that the Ignis is a quirky little thing, whether it’s the exterior or interior design. It does have an angry face and flared wheel arches to give it an SUV-like stance, but a dimension comparison reveals that its length is a full 90mm short of the Swift, while the width is exactly the same (1,690mm). What helps its crossover styling apart from the chunky wheel arches is the tall-boy styling and fat C-pillar.

Rivals

When launched, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will go up against the likes of the KUV100, Swift and Grand i10.
