New Delhi: While the cricket fans are anxiously waiting for the release of Sachin Tendulkar's biopic, another one is in the making for them. Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal's biopic is in making and her role would be played by none other than Shraddha Kapoor.
Shraddha, who is currently busy with Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai - in which she is playing Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar, confirmed to Bombay Times about the same.
"Most girls would have played badminton at some point in their lives in school. I feel so lucky to be playing Saina, who is not just among the world's top badminton players, but also a youth icon. I can't wait to start prepping for my role," she said.
Saina was delighted after hearing the news as she was unaware of the cast.
"Whoa! That's news to me... I was aware of the film, yes. But I didn't know about this casting ," said Saina, who is currently in China for the Badminton Asia Championships.
"It's great if Shraddha is playing me, because she is a very talented actress and very hardworking! I am sure she will do justice to the role. The best part is, she is a good friend as well. So it will be easier to teach her some badminton (laughs). A lot of people tell me that we look similar and I think that's a huge compliment, cos Shraddha is very beautiful."
Notably, at an event earlier this year, Saina said that she would want Deepika Padukone to portray her role. Deepika is the daughter of Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone, who was the first Indian shuttler to clinch the prestigious All England Championship.
The biopic will be produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and will release in 2018. It will be directed by Amol Gupte, who has been working on the movie for quite some time now.
