Bihar Assembly Elections 2015 Results

Rashtriya Janata Dal

Rashtriya Janata Dal

Old Janata Dal hand Lalu Prasad Yadav formed the Rashtriya Janta Dal after he broke away from the parent party in 1997. A Bihar centric party, the party has banked heavily on Yadavs and Muslims, two large and relatively politically active segments of Bihar's population. In 2008, RJD received the status of recognized national level party following its good performance in north-eastern states, however, RJD was derecognised as a national party on 30 July 2010. 2015 Bihar assembly elections is the biggest test faced by Lalu in his long political career. Given the conviction in fodder case, Lalu cannot contest polls but he has tried to keep the family name alive by putting both his sons in the fray. A win will see the emergence of gen-next of Yadav family; a loss would mean political oblivion. RJD is also contesting in 101 seats.
