NRI arrested in Bihar for theft, drinking

An non-resident Indian man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and consuming liquor in the dry state of Bihar, police said on Thursday.

Patna: An non-resident Indian man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and consuming liquor in the dry state of Bihar, police said on Thursday.

Raju Srivastav, a US-based NRI, was arrested in West Champaran district in connection with the theft of a motorcycle and consumption of liquor.

"Raju, along with a local resident Akhilesh Sharma, was arrested for theft of a motorcycle and consumption of liquor," Vimlendu Kumar, officer in-charge of the town police station, said.

Raju, a resident of Raghunathpur village under the district's Turkauliya police station, returned to his native place from the US last month. 

"Raju and Akhilesh have confessed to their involvement in the theft of other motorcycles in the last one month," police said.

Raju had informed police that he was working for a private company in the US.

Police have recovered some important documents from Raju, including his Green Card.

According to police, both Raju and Akhilesh have been sent to jail after being presented in a local court.
