New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Nitish Kumar minutes after the latter was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar amid fast paced political developments in the state.

PM Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the two leaders.

Just shortly after Nitish Kumar resigned as the chief minister of Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had lauded the Janata Dal United leader for fighting against corruption.

Around two hours later, Nitish thanked PM Modi for his support, via a tweet of his own.

The country's population welcomes and supports such honesty, Modi had said, tweeting barely minutes after Kumar spoke to the media in Patna, confirming that he had tendered his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi.

"For a bright future, India, especially Bihar, needs to rise above political disagreements to fight corruption; this is the need of the hour," Modi had said in his two tweets on the Bihar chief minister's resignation.

Around two hours after PM Modi's tweets, Nitish Kumar responded, saying, "I thank PM Modi for his comments on my resignation that he expressed via a tweet."
