As the UPA government lurches from crisis even opponents will be worried about the institutional damage to a vibrant democracy. The latest blow is from the fact that the Army chief's age row got dragged to the SC in the first place. And, what led to this dangerous face-off between two essential institutions?

A singular and utter failure in decision all along. Nature power abhors a vacuum and the Supreme Court has been forced to step in time and again, as the UPA government abdicates all authority and decision making to stay in office.

Let me set it out squarely to you, this weak government has ensured with its below par decision making that the vital power of the executive is getting whittled away. And, despite the complete and utter failure of leadership, checks and balances are vital for all institutions. While, I cast no aspersions on the Supreme Court, which is second to none in ensuring a repeatedly erring executive is brought to heel, do we really want an India run by judicial fiats?

Whether it is the Adarsh scam, the CVC issue with tainted Thomas, the latest cancellation of 122 licences and guidelines issued for use of natural resources and the sanctity of auctions, a prostrate government is running away from exercising its authority. And, a government that does not have the will to power has no right to exist.

The fall of Manmohan Singh has been so sharp that it seems that he will bargain away anything, ATM ministries to rapacious allies, Mamta Banerjee's blackmail on FDI, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi's dole economics which is beggaring India, no traction on much needed reforms such as labour laws which has seen our economic growth sputter and die.

What is the point of being in office if you cannot govern?

And, with it's silly egoistical face-offs with real and imaginary foes which the gamut from the Army chief to Anna Hazare, and incredibly even someone as ridiculous as Baba Ramdev before whom the government prostrated before discovering a bleated spine, you wonder who is actually in charge?

Where the does the buck stop? And, is someone actually minding the store, when you have twits manning the PMO twitter saying that the PMO is at fault, but the court has exonerated the PM. Oh really, this preposterous separation would be laughable if it was not tragic for the country.

From quoting Hugo when he said while presenting his visionary budget "no power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come", it’s time Dr Manmohan Singh called a halt to the tragedy that is the lack of leadership in the UPA.

can any one say, why there is a false report on godra train burning case - which claim it as an accident? (i think it is a railway enquiry report under our fooder scam here lalu prasad yadav.) when there are clear evidence to show that it is a planned one.

pm may not be the best one but he is much better than the options presently available despite all the propaganda created by some people with active support from certain sections of visible media who may be having their own compulsions to take part in the negative propaganda. but objectively analysed, he is much above the rest available in the field. people will remember him for his kindness and long term initiatives like nuclear deal, mnrega, food guarantee etc.

the state of the country can be easily compared with the baby Falak under treatment in AIIMS. like a small kid. our country is in same state tortured by corrupt politicians / babus. incompetent intelligence agencies are working over time to cover real culprits knowing well the facts like Delhi police knows its a case of human trafficking and hiding the big one. i do not know how long or country will remain admitted in ICU under the incompetent team of Dr. Manmohan Singh in Gandhi institute of fake surgeries.

in the parliamentary system democracy cannot be successful with innumerable parties including regional ones. this is preventing the formation of a strong government and opposition too. when the government is dependent on splinter parties in reality it becomes powerless, unless the leaders are happy to have a job to make money for themselves and that is exactly what is happening. the country took the back seat in priority. the well meaning leaders of india should ponder on this and come out with a solution. this may also deter rampant corruption by the politicians and the bureaucrats. admittedly, it would be a hard job. but stubborn disease requires bitter medicine. indian constitution needs a major overhaul in view of the sad experience of the last six decades.

she is very correct. the most unfortunate part is that we have a goverment whose primeminister is just unable to take any decision and whom no minister cares. each and every minister thinks that he/ she has to please only one person and then can care a fig for anybody including the prime minister. in each and every cases whether cwg, 2g, age row, or action against salman khursheed, the prime minister has failed. india is considered one of the most corrupt country but is there a single minister or bureucrat ever sacked by his office. nitish kumar is doing far better and it is not the media or courts who are asking/ ordering action against the person but his office which is taking action and the nation comes to know about that afterwards. he even has started confiscating their properties and have converted them into govt. buildings but can the pm quote a single such example. it is only he, who knows why he is continuing.

i have read the comments of vinodshukla raipur and cs radhakrishanan goa. it seems the people have not thought beyond the mirror of congress which is making the people fool since long.five lac kashmiries had to abandon their houses.sonia has no time to say even a single word in their sympathy.every day the terrorists are killing persons but she or pm has no time to console the sufferers .only terrorists have human rights and not the loyal citizens. culprits are made hero .the congress is spreading casteism/communalism since its inception.hence the muslims did not get attached with it barring a few.with the neutral role of electronic media which has exposed it now the people have started raising their voice.the pm is past master in making anti nation decisions. in narsingha ministery also he was part of such decisions such as printing currency in foreign which exposed its secrets leading to flood of fakecurrency, recruitment of hardcore terrorists in paramilitary forces demolition of babri masjid purchase of shibusoren,300 crore urea scam and so on. if people are not opening eyes and do not want to rise no one can save it from slavery. today we are sole traders and even for a needle we have to depend upon china.the coming of regional parties is the result of such policies of congress.i think this is due policyless/wrong policy of opposition.rajiv was blasted while compaigning to get chair and not for the nation.there is no role of any kind in making india by sonia or rahul.india has been made their personal property by such like thinkers.

a section of the media is trying to denigrate this govt. the policy of 2 g of nda has been invalidated by supreme court. why people like subramanium swami did not fight that time. now corporates like airtel are funding a smear campagain. they got the spectrum free of cost and building 2 lac crore empire. bjp sold profit making undertakings at throw away prizes. cag reports were not even put before parliament. supreme court simply said that they can not challenge the powers of govt. now the same supreme court has become over-active. the black money king hasan ali was not arrested in nda regime though he was very much there & carrying out his nefarous game. who was protecting him. adarsh type societies exist in every nook & corner of india. the issue of even discussed in parliament in 2004. l why not govt of india led by nda took any action. the military of pakistan invaded kargil the govt of india was sleeping. no media out cry. in 2004 there was india shining campaign, what was shining that time which is not shining now ? it is the media which is creating a false picture. what atal bihari was doing during his regime - two times knee operation. leaders like pramod mahajan looting the country.

what is your point? is that the reason, upa is justifying its incompetenece, corruption and lack of governance? shame on you. upa should be concentrating on good governance rather than changing the subject. let me tell you something. nda was better than upa. every indian abroad felt proud of being indian during nda regime. until nda regime, no one gave damn to indians. look at idiotic nehru. he created mess in kashmir and tibet and indians are paying the price for it.

the impatience of the elite is understandable, but it is the same elite club which has paralyzed the government with its over-enthusiastic support to anna`s unreasonable and impractical demands which made the passing of the lok pal bill difficult and eventually log-jammed.it is one thing to promote the reasonable demand that there should be a national ombudsman, but it is quite another to want to make it appear to be a panacea for every ill of the country.insisting that my way or no way is the only way to work and the frenzied clamour of uninformed crowds denouncing the government made things difficult for the government. the condemnation of welfare proframs for the poor shows sheer arrogance of the elite who corner every benefit the free econmy affords but is reluctant to do something on their own to alleviate the suffering of the poor,is what makes the government to step in and do something.if the well0-off section of the society were to feel the responsibility for supporting the poor in whatever little way they could, india would be a heaven on earth.we would then be able to show the world an alternative model of development.charity for claiming income tax exemption is not what i am talking about.genuine giving, with the heart behind it,is what will bind the society together. government bashing will not achieve that.
we can`t invite anarchy in india by asserting state power and so-called emphatic decision making.

madam.....courts can`t run the nation ...neither they r meant for that.....we should not be forgetting that gen. v.k. singh is also a citizen of india and have every right to move to court if he desires........ its not the mistake of the goi but of themilitary record keepers who r at the rooy of the mess ...... the role of worthy p.m. is appreciable as for as the running of govt is concerned ..... it is easier to acccuse than to empathisize......

the government must start now. it`s not too late to change !

really india needs to grow fast and measure up to the aspirations of it`s people. india needs some help to grow and exploit the natural advantage of a large working class population. without much needed labour reform, industry and agriculture will continue to invest in capital intensive technology leaving behind a mass of unemployed.

we need an industrial revolution and the government needs to act now ! agree 100 pct with swati. another excellent blog.

well done madam!
