Think of Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan and what comes immediately to mind? The word superstar is my guess, think harder and the term fading superstar will soon cross your mind. Relishing the sweet taste of success and enjoying all the glitz and glamour, these macho actors have seen the highest echelon of power, fame and glamour. And all this is without them having delivered a blockbuster in recent times.

Forget a blockbuster, they don’t even have a decent film to their name these days. Despite that they continue to thrive and rake in millions as they are touted as the most sought after actors.

With endorsements for cars, stationery, watches, hair-oils, bathing products, liquor, cola brands to even bare essentials, these actors have more brands to their names than hits to their credit.

Jumping off cliffs, getting chased by girls, zooming on highways, featuring in some exotic locales as they bank millions to sell brands, these superstars seem to be thriving on the lack of talent that currently scrunches Tinsel Town. True, they are talented and have some noteworthy films to boast of, but that is that. As of now, these actors come across as just being plain lazy, flying high till someone bursts their hot air balloon.

Take the case of Shah Rukh Khan, who has been dumping the viewers with one flop after the other. The actor, who is popularly raved as King Khan, can only be considered a royal for his off-screen antics for he gravely disappoints when it comes to acting. Then be it his childlike fondness for working with dud directors who indulge in sycophancies or his self confessed narcissist streak but there is just no stopping Shah Rukh from making flops or even admitting to a blooper in his kitty. Take Billu Barber, Rab Ne Bana Jodi for eg.

What’s worse is that these ‘brain tweezers’ are met with a subtle whip by the critics who are just too scared to flak the superstar. Nevertheless, his own colleagues have been far less forgiving as many directors are now offering him roles of a fading superstar.

But SRK is still perhaps the best example of how the right media hype and public relations strategies can cloud the audiences’ image of a filmstar. And the only actor who can match up to the vain PR clout that surrounds SRK is Saif Ali Khan.

From having a trophy girlfriend Kareena Kapoor to being blessed with a royal lineage, Saif has no justification for being termed as a superstar. Last seen in ‘Kurbaan’, Saif was more in news for his dare-bare act with Bebo in the film than his unconvincing terrorist role. Yet there is little stopping the actor from quoting whopping figures to producers.

But who needs to toil and slog when the PR budget of a film is at par with the costs that goes into making one? If not the actors, atleast the PR gurus seem to be doing their job right. For not only do these PR executives dupe the viewers into spending the hard-earned dough on such flops, they also ensure that no bad word is spread about the film or the larger than life actors who act in them.

And this perfectly devised act has worked for years in favour of Akshay Kumar. The actor, who at one time delivered seven so-called hits in a row, has had a nose-diving run for several films now. Right from the disastrous ‘Chandni Chowk to China’, ‘Blue’, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, ‘De Dana Dan’ to ‘Khatta Meetha’ there is just no end to Akshay’s flop stint. Yet the actor continues to thrive as before.

Well, what-so-ever trick had been working for there stars so far, they seem to be on the verge of falling off the wagon. As of now they can only be termed as fading superstars!

1) how is shahrukh khan a fading superstar. shahrukh khan has given more blockbusters/superhits than all the actors combined in the past 10 years. mohabbatein, kabhi khushi kabhie gham, devdas, chalte chalte, kal ho na ho, main hoon na, veer zara, swades, kabhi alvida na kehna, don, chak de india, om shanti om, rab ne banadi jodi, my name is khan. how on earth can he be a fading superstar. my name is khan according to worldwide collections, not indian only grossed more than 41 million dollars and is the highest grossing film overseas.

2nd) how does he play it safe? he has established karan johar as a director he has done many ventures with other directors. he has done negative roles baaizgar, darr, anjaam and don. intellectual roles such as my name is khan, chak de india, swades..comedy on baadshah and main hoon na,romantic on rab ne, k3g, kabhi alvida na kehna, kuch kuch hota hain, dil to pagal hain. please dont say he is not versatile.

3) if shahrukh is fading so are salman and aamir. slamna has given so many flops along with aamir khan. just because aamir dominated the box office for the past 2 years doesnt mean shahrukh khan has faded away.

4) akshay has some of the higest grossing movies ever.

5) saif has always been in decline.

this is the lowest form of journalist writing that i have come across in a long time. not to mention factually incorrect as pointed out by some comments. it`s highly irresponsible on the part of zee news to publish such blogs as it only brings down the name of the channel. i for one am highly disturbed that stars that bring such fame and goodwill to a country are treated so unfairly and with in such a derogatory manner. the writer clearly symbolizes the rot in society that exists. a class of people that thrive on merely bringing down the successful. its a shame. perhaps a lack of morality or optimism is missing in the author. please don`t forget that those that think negative of others get nothing but negative energy and failure in their lives too. will stop watching zee tv as a singular form of protest. perhaps it won`t matter to the channel but viewers do not like to read such blogs. expected more from zee, can`t say the same about the writer.

yours` sincerely,
sotiveni kai.

i never type comments on articles or blogs, but this lady made me do so. this lady is writing stuff which are so incorrect. before writing her article she has not thought about what will happen when people who know the truth will actually not follow her this so called article/blog. it is showing her personal bias. someone should tell her when you are a writer and when people are reading your blogs/article on a open basis and they are allowed to judge you, this is really bad for her reputaion by typing wrong information.

for her information -
1) ``billu`` was not a shah rukh khan movie. he just made a exteneded guest appearance in the film. the film was based on lara dutta and irfan khan`s character and it was produced by red chillies. (i have no idea from where she got info that billu was a shah rukh khan film)

2) ``rab ne...`` was 2nd biggest all time blockbuster after ghajni. also, for her information - ``rab ne...`` ran in theatres for continously 25+ weeks. (no idea from where and which site she got info it was a flop....her writing makes me laugh)

3) here comes the best part - she says after billu onwards there are no shahrukh khan film which has become a bit....rofl...hilarious person this is. does she live in this world or some another one??? in feb,2010 a film called ``my name is khan`` was made for her info..and its a huge hit not only in india but internationally (she has no idea about this cuz its beyond her imagination how high mnik has gone) for her info, ``my name is khan`` is still running in theatres in china in more than a dozen cities. its still collecting lods of money from its huge success. i mean a film released in feb still gaining money from market till dec. so feb-dec 2010 (still continuing) to earn does is make a flop?? i dont think so, but i think this so called writer thinks that.

4) for her further info, in previous years, 2007 - ``chak de india`` and ``om shanti om`` were the huge blockbusters and oso had broken every record till date (2007)

5) next year (i doubt she knows about it...lol!!) shahrukh khan`s film ra.one is coming out. according to all the buzz and hardwork of srk behind it - its going be another blockbuster from his side. lets see what she then ,)

also,in case of saif ali khan - i think she doesnt know about the film ``love aaj kal`` which was a hit as well in 2009. yeah kurbaan didnt work, but still saif has not done much work recently as well.

yeah its true that akshay needs a superhit desperately, his films have been not doing good recently. ``tees maar khan`` might be that film for him. (only on akshay part she was right in this blog)

i think she needs to read atleast the facts about what she is writing rather than writing something pointless. this blog/article shows her complete bias.
yes, its true that we have freedom of speech but it should be right at first place to be followed by others. overall, this article made me laugh at her (sorry!!) but this is the truth. next time please atleast read the facts and come dear!

is this supposed to be a joke?? calling rab ne a flop.. when it was a big hit and no mentions of mnik?? one of the biggest hits of 2010! and dissing srk and calling him someone who uses contacts and stuff.. the guy is self made.. he is no star son, or son of a rich man.. he has made his fortune himself..whereas people like aamir have been handed stuff in platter by their filmi families.

isn`t it easy to sit in front of a computer and call people lazy and fading superstars without providing substantial evidence. instead lying about the box office earnings of the mentioned movies. the writer seems to have forgotten about rnbdj, mnik, love aaj kal and houseful to name a few that were successful hits. or is it out of pure hatred that has led the writer to defame the particular stars. people who have worked in the industry for the past two decades giving blockbusters and in the process being injured many times does in no way make them lazy and worthless. abhishek, hrithik, salman and infact all stars give flops in phases of their career but it seems that personal bias has led the writer to write such a baseless and infact demeaning article that in my opinion make her own self look petty. people should judge others only when they themselves can be counted as being without any flaws. or perhaps demeaning others makes such feel superior and important. may god bless the writer with good sense and compassion so that she may look for goodness in others instead of promoting negativity and hatred.

what a pathetic article. written by probably a srk hater. forgetting the success of rnbdj and the critically acclaimed mnik the writer is stating incorrect facts.not to mention housefull and love aaj kal for akshay and saif. please get your facts right. jealously about the mentioned actors and their success is written all over the article. purely crap and just a gimmick by the author to grab cheap publicity and eyeballs. using the actors name for hyping up her own article. may god bless the writer with good sense.

the author`s critique is factually incorrect and it either reflects her ignorance and lack of knowledge on the subject matter or reeks of a strong sense of personal bias.

brands these days have multiple options. there are loads of movie stars to choose from. no brand will pay multi-crores to a star who is fading in the public image. when itc clothing perceived that hrithik was past his prime and his youth, they quickly changed to ranbir kapoor to endorse their john player line. besides movie stars, brands can choose from cricketers (those emerging from tier 2 and tier 3 cities) or sports persons like saina nehwaal who are brining glory to the nation. if despite all the plethora of options a brand sticks to an srk or a akshay kumar it is only due to the fact that these guys connect with the masses and embody the brands` values!

then comes the author`s point on srk dumping one flop after another on the viewers. hilarious stuff! mnik (2010) was a hit. check this link out:
http://boxofficeindia.com/showprod.php?itemcat=317&catname=mjaxmc0ymde5

billu is not srk`s movie. he produced it and had only a guest appearance in it. `rab ne..` was 2008`s 2nd biggest hit after ghajini. his two films before that - `chak de india` and `om shamti om` were 2007`s biggest hits. all these facts and figures reiterate the author`s ignorance and incompetence to deal with the subject matter.

akshay - yes, he has given a string of flops and there is no denying the fact that he needs a superhit desperately which looks highly likely in `tees maar khan`. saif has hardly done any work recently. kurbaan didnt do well but before that he gave a critically acclaimed performance in `love aaj kal` which was also a commercial success.

so in hindsight, i find this article/blog a big joke and think that the author might be better off doing one of those frivolous 30 mins snippets on some hindi channel shouting `` khatam ho gya khan aur kumar ka career!``

i`m no fan of any of the 3 actors that the author mentioned, but the article seems to be a desperate attempt to grab some eye balls - something she accuses these stars of.

not only does she come across as arrogant, the piece smacks of her ignorance aswell. sample this - rnbdj is a flop, srk/saif/akshay have been doling out flops etc.

to set the record straight, here are the facts -

1. rnbdj was the second biggest hit of 2008 after ghajini. check the trade figures, if in doubt. mnik was a hit too, if not a blockbuster. this leaves, billu as srk`s only miss in the last several years.

2. while kurbaan might have been a flop, saif`s love aaj kal was one of the top 5 films to hit the jackpot in 2009.
3. it`s true that akshay hasn`t been at his best, but houseful did good business.

i`m sure salman khan would have found a mention had it not been for dabangg.

isn`t it irnonical that the author claims these stars to have the best of endorsements, bank balances, high paying film offers etc. & goes on to day they`re flops. can`t see if the corporates/producers have gone mad to be doing so or the author lacks some basic reasoning skills.

in in a nutshell, being judegemental is easy. but any judgement should be backed by facts & reason, not mere rhetoric.
