Anna back on the driver's seat

Orissa Diary
a
So, Anna has struck the chord again, kicking off a debate as to whether his way of 'satyagraha' can really bring about a change while not breaching the parliamentary ethics. He is not alone this time albeit, it had appeared so in the initial phase of his campaign. It is a different matter whether his ways can help him fight-out the dangerous malaise plaguing the nation. But, the issue has brought to the fore many colours in the shape of media savvy 'netas' and intellectuals who, on one hand, espouse for the poor from behind the masks and, on the other, their pretensions in holding the briefs for the political people are so implicitly clear. Let corruption be there for half-a-century more but let, only, the bunch of corrupt and incurable politicians stem the rot constitutionally which has not been possible in the last 64 years. They have made the rules that give them the escape routes.

And it is no secret that none of the political parties can ever be in favour of a strong
Lokpal Bill.

The intelligentsia that frequently appears on the television channels has its own agenda. While the politicians try to play it safe to hide their double standards, their desperations for political opportunism are very discernible.

A sizable number of intellectuals who peddle a mind-set about probity in the political field, try to dub Anna's style of reform as deceptive, collusive, amateurish and extremely detrimental for a democracy. That may be correct as far as the haste with which Anna has been trying to pressurise the government for a clinical solution is concerned. But, Anna has never claimed a place in the policy making mechanism so far. He has only pressed for the inclusion of some points for debate in the Parliament, which he still does.

So does the multitude out on the streets of Delhi and elsewhere for whom Anna epitomises the mass sentiment against corruption.

Anna's versions on corruption have been hard to place as a mere satire. But when a satire is accurate, it really shocks many. And it did.

Some have seen it as an assault on the Constitution and on the nuances of democracy. But a great majority of this country has seen it as a rightful attack on a kind of totalitarianism that has given root to a malaise now hard to be dislodged from the State socialism.

But the people at large, in India, who pay a price for the air they breath, for the water they drink and see the dreams for a better education for their children shattered under the load of bribe they have to pay as donations, construe Anna's call as an attack on the pretensions of the politicians and the socalled liberalism of the metro-based intellectuals on the TV screens.

“It is a not a mass movement as it has only aroused the sentiments of the upper middle class,” was one observation made by a few intellectuals including journalists.

How many of those intellectuals read the pulse of the nation in the extreme rural pockets? There is an equal fire among the lower-middle class and the down-trodden. The irony is that they lack a medium, lack a man to carry their emotions.

Anna Hazare is now saying something what they always think but have never managed to formulate into words.

Regardless of the support Anna has garnered in the last three to four days, he has been committing the mistake time and again by spelling deadlines for the legislation of the Jan Lokpal Bill. Then the bigger question is, what would happen after the deadline of 15 days or so.

Such outbursts always give an opportunity to his detractors to dub it as a feverish tubercular imagination and accuse his close supporters for 'lampooning' of a popular cause in a kind of sado-masochistic manner.

Obviously, we can not expect any law framed beyond the ambit of the Constitution. So, Jan Lokpal Bill cannot be an exception.

That Anna and his associates know. But what Anna has done is that he has reminded the nation about a thing that the politicians usually avoid.

If Anna supporters have lampooned themselves over a cause so dear to one and all, then what cannot be ignored are the ways in which leaders and people on television debates try to lampoon themselves by casting aspersions on the 74-year-old social reformer who enjoys an impeccable record as a social activist. While some say he is “corrupt from head to the toe”, others were heard calling him a “7th pass truck driver”.

Sadly, such outbursts are not only febrile in taste but are meaninglessly incomprehensible. Is he not more sacrosanct than the people with criminal track records sitting in Parliament or in various state Assemblies?

An over-dose of intellectualization of the movement through television debates tries to over-shadow the simple thing, that Anna's fight may not be concerned with all the contemporary events, but it is an issue about the continuing present and surely an update on the level of corruption that blights one and all. The ones who hasten to deplore Anna as 'corrupt' or a 'driver' are shamelessly unmoved by the embarrassing descriptions of peoples' encounter with poverty, starvation, farmers' suicide or child selling in the interiors of the country.

Anna' movement cannot be dismissed as a mere satirical attack. What cannot be lost sight of is that, it is a kind of warning, though not a prophecy, which has aroused lakhs of people in the country who want to assert themselves. Perhaps they were desperate for such an avenue. It is wrong to say that it were only the "white skinned" boys and girls hyped by the electronics media.

Such observations emanate from the people who suffer from a kind of myopia and it exposes their class difficulties more than about the real social discrimination in a country threatened by corruption.

i refer to the response from mr.r.s.agarwala of bhilwara. he should ask about his helplessness over the scam to ones like, abhishek manusanghvi, kapil sibal, digvijay singh , manish teewari and last but not the least, pranab babu, the bunch of mr.know-alls.
nothing shall change in this country and there would be no more anna after the one now fasting at ramlila ground. unless our thinking changes, this will continue.the author of this article very rightly observed that what anna says is ` about a continuing present and an ` on our sagging moral. manmohan singh will keep feeding the nation with his growth percentage of 7%, 8% & 9% ! he is a week man, incapable of asserting himself. that is also corruption.

on 30th august govt. will bound to accept anna`s jan lokpal bill..........by your own individual effort, voice, write & participation..

how ?

1- just write - ``mother india crying: stand & fight with anna`` send mailers to all you know in your mailer list.

2- daily drop 1 post card to president of the nation, for what she is sitting in president house. she is a chief of the nation, it is time for her to create history by directing pm to enforce jan lokpal bill to eradicate corruption.

3- assume today is your marriage day, send cards to everyone you know and invite them to participate in the mission.

4- it is time to make relations with your neighbour and friends call them, share your idea to favour anna.

5- create a wave among all to ``support anna``. discuss everywhere - in family, at shop, at office, at factory, at club etc.

6- write letter, blogs to mp`s of your area - ``just enjoy your days on finger - neta ji !next election will eliminate you from indian politics``.

7- recite and send dushyant`s poem to all -

``ho gayi hai peer parvat si pighalni chahiye
iss himalaya se koi ganga nikalni chahiye

aaj yeh deewar pardo ki tarah hilne lagi
shart lekin thi ki ye buniyaad hilni chahiye

har sadak par, har gali, har nagar, har gram me
haath lehrate hue har laash chalni chahiye

sirf hungama khada karna anna ka maqsad nahi
sari koshish hai ki ye surat badalni chahiye

mere ke sine me nahi to tere sine me sahi
ho kahi bhi aag lekin aag lagni chahiye....

judgement day : tuesday
judgement date : 30th august 2011
judgement mission : jan lokpal bill
judgement power & instrument : yourself

arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached.

govt and its supporters look thoroughly ridiculous and clueless. i would advise the pm to call for a meeting with anna and together submit one bill. it would electrify the nation and assure congress`s return to power. they could even agree to es by casting aspersions on the 74-year-old social reformer who enjoys an impeccable record as a social activist. while some say he is “corrupt from head to the toe”, others were heard calling him a “7th pass truck driver”.

dr ambedkar had made a very beautiful constitution of india but you may be aware that before constructing a building we carry out pest control in the foundation itself.if not done,we have to carryout the same every 6 months or annually on the finished building, still you may not get the desired result.i don`t know why the same was not done during the foundation days of india. therfore, you have to carryout pest control every now and then by making piece of legislation for this issue or that issue but still you may not eradicate corruption from india. nevertheless, if indians are vigillant enough and review the systems at regular intervals and take remedial measures immediately only then incredible india may shine for ever, else history repeats itself.please mind that our history is replete with foreign invaders and 400 years of foreign dominance.

it is a fact that corruption is all around in our country. i have documentary evidences of biggest corporate scam of the centuray. i want to expose that scam.
i have sent papers of that scam to all the mps of the country but no one have raised the question in parliament.
in courts the judges are being managed by those who are involved in scam.
the curprits have distributed hundred of crores in covering this scam.
is there anyone in this country who will come forward to bring this biggest scam before the people of this country.

anna was on a wrong footing by not going to the masses before his resolve to fast. no need of spelling things like ` do or go` . which is unlikely, before the next poll. now manmohan singh must act and act good n include himself within the lokpal bill.

why so much `hulla-gulla` over the constitutions drafted over 6 decades back. why not a change in that when time demands. still we guys are steered by clerical rules framed by the britsh 300 years ago. you guys keep making fool of the whole nation by using the parliament adjourned half the year with millions of rs of tax-payers wasted and call yourself the harbingers. yes we r all tired of the issues like cwg, 2g, adarsh and oil scam and all that. anna or no anna, hey ! get your acts together.

we appreciate anna...for his great thought and thinking about our nation. but we have to accept the truth that we can`t change it in one day. i do believe that corruption is spoiling our country. let’s be practical and think....we are the one who is promoting corruption if we take an initiative and promise from our self and nation that we will not promote any corruption. to be frankly speaking corruption are everywhere because of only educated people who know the rule and also know the way, “how to break the rule``. let me give you a simple example

``we ordered something from company outside india, and it stuck with indian custom what we will do pay some extra money to them get the product released from indian custom``. why we do so? anybody has answer, some will say who will waste time in arguing these fellows even though we are right but to deliver the goods to right people on time people do so. if you see that why we paid extra penny to the custom people to reduce the turnaround time. what i really feel is that the turnaround time should be reduced.

let me give you one more example i want to start my business for that i need some loan you go to bank with all paper they will tell you come after 2 month once after all verification done then only u will get loan sanction letter. now if the same manager will tell you give me 5% of the loan amount it will get approved in 15days. what people will do?? yes they will definitely go with this option there is uncertainty of getting the loan approved in 2 month time but with 5% commission there is certainty to getting the loan amount.

don`t think big as world can`t change in one day. think small and take initiative which everybody should follow. i know we will get retarded effect in our life which will worry us a lot. think about future if you are genuine nobody will ask for anything, they have to do anyhow as this is their job and they are getting pay for it. they can`t hold it for long time. here what we need is commitment not with our self with our nation that we will not follow give and take policy as this is unethical and against the law.

now just think of anna demand is not being accepted by the government and the government will fall...who will get affected....only common people. it would be good if anna fight against rising price as this fight won`t relief the poor people. it only targets the high class people.

one more thing which i want to focus...that anna demand for having committee that can query anybody but who knows the committee members are not corrupted. establishing a committee is also overhead on indian government which means more tax on people. think before you follow anybody :)

arguments against anna`s lokpal bill tactics are outside the constitution ring hollow. was not the entire independence movement by gandhiji outside the laws of the british empire? such commnets make the government and its supporters look thoroughly ridiculous and clueless. i would advise the pm to call for a meeting with anna and together submit one bill. it would electrify the nation and assure congress`s return to power. they could even agree to not examine and prosecute lower level actors in all scandals prior to the commonwealth games. starting at that point, all corruption would be vigorously investigated and prosecuted. let us go forward together and do it now. this has the potential to invigorate india and propell it forward demonstrating to all the resilience and wonder of india`s dep democratic tradtions.

we will be i think more happy as a nation to be driven by a driver, after lord krishna was also a driver. we will be happiest to be counselled, guided, and befriended by 7th pass (of watever the bogus education system means) for he can understand the us but not the us returned wb served half knowledged who want to run the country and look upon our own brothers.
long live anna`s struggle! it will succeed come what may. if have a parliament which cannot pass the bill it is better to throw the parliament out which is costing billion of tax payers money to run. that is bound happen. down with parliamentary democracy which cannot give justice to poorest of the poor. India is at a phase of history where the world is looking for solution. the first solution for the indian lawmaker, sorry i would call these law bakers (kudh ki roti sekhnewale) and get their tails straightened (ullu sidha karne wale) opportunistic fiends, they are are fiends and nothing else. if mahatma`s movement brought the british to heels and ayashi ke mohatab, ruling class kings and nobles to knees, we can also make the present ruling class redundent.

hi raj - mumbai,

looks like you wanted to show are too intellectual by writing so much and the last line shows that clearly. are you looking for job in media industry?

you know how much money is wasted in corruption? i am sure you don`t have a slightest idea. you know that the corruption money which we waste every year is equal to many conuntries gdp?
you know that even if we bring 50% of the corruption down how much money we can save?
even 1% saved from this corruption money can feed the new officers recruited to fit inside lokpal organisation. so 99% saved for country and this 99% is a lot amount which your mind cannot calculate.

if really 50% corruption can come down maybe we might need to pay less tax and surely we can use these money in infrastructure, education, etc and this will advance our country to next level.

so get your figures correct and talk of positive things. don`t go for too technical things. experts are there to fix those things and beleive me the team anna are not fooling around. they have really intelligent peoples in that and that`s the reason even the indian government has to bow down in front of this team and indians.

you go and fight for the same cause with your narrow mindset and beleive me even a single person from your family will not join you.

think sensible, be a man!!!!

i agree with mr.jogelkar`s saying that many of the politicians in power shall go to tihar jail if jan lokpal bill passed . but that would create a real over-crowding there ! and more dangerous is that these politicians may create a new contagion of corruption there by which many of the jail inmates (there are many incorruptible among them, mind you) shall be terribly affected for the worse and suffer from character-deficit.!!!

what a shame for our politicians that a 74 yr old man is doing fast unto death for cleaning the filth caused by them.he is surviving on water and netas are seen enjoying roasted kajus during meeting on such serious issues.don`t they understand that if something happens to anna, the crowd on streets may turn violent and then they are going to be in danger.anna may not be right in setting deadlines but is there any other option, who can believe such liar netas.carry on anna,we are with you.

white skinned boys and girls` movement? lets turn it into a national movement. we need to educate everyone we know about jan lokpal. whoever we meet on the street or in daily life - auto wala, taxi driver, your milkman, maid servant, driver, peons, labourers - must be educated by us about the bill so that the next time, if anna is forced to sit on another fast, there is a bigger and wider support. lets start doing it from today !!

Metro-based intelligentsia or the lawyers for that matter are clearly unqualified to comment on the suffering of the majority. Anna’s life roots from a village and he would remain a villager by heart. He might lack refinement but is a man of unenviable simplicity and devotion. Of course the associates of Anna often border on extremes complicating the entire process.

manmohan singh is a honest man but he is too weak this kind of nature guy is not fit to drive this great country, in his tenure every time we heard corruption & mahngaye, every minister and burucrats who loves corruption more than country did this bad habit of corruption and they killed almost country as termite kills wood, after anna hazare movement on janlokpal bill we are feeling some light which can bring country on right path, now corrupted lobby is not in favour of it it is very bad sign for the country.
manmohan singh and rahul gandhi must take lead on janlokpal bill which is the right path to drive country otherwise future of congress party as well as dream of rahul gandhi to become pm will dump in garbage drum infront of every citizen house.

it`s mean to call anna hazare a 7th standard truck driver. he also served as a soldier (a jawan) and has taken the trouble to familiarize himself with the works of freedom fighters such as bose and ambedkar. he has earth intelligence, integrity and a charisma that most leaders would die for. even through the tv screen you can see the light shining the determination through his eyes and one can
experience the cosmic pull of his control over the huge crowds in front of him as they go about his bidding and respond to his ``if i die, so what, there are so many more anna`s in front of me!`` with a thunderous roar of approval. he is history in the making and gives one a sense of what it must have been to be in the mahatma`s presence during independance. now maybe india will gain independance of fairness creams, ``long and strong hair, nuclear power plants, coca cola, vulgar jeans and soulless item girls prostituting themselves in stupid bollywood remixes and stupid bollywood movies.
