To describe Vidya Balan is the most difficult task for an admirer like me. She is a charmer and has wooed the audiences from the beginning of her career; be it with her simple girl avatar in ‘Parineeta’, a bespectacled deglamorised Sabrina in ‘No One Killed Jessica’ or her oooh lala bold and sensuous act in ‘The Dirty Picture’.
The temptress shot to limelight with her debut film ‘Parineeta’. Her looks and acting skills gave the signal that she was here to rule the ‘Hindi’ film industry, or shall I say, the new/southern sensation was all set to bring back the charm of someone like yesteryear’s sirens - Rekha or the breathtaking Madhuri.
She has often been criticised about her dressing sense needed for a Bollywood diva but with her recent success, she has proved all her critics wrong and is undoubtedly leading the charts of popularity right now. It goes without saying that she is now the first choice of the producers and directors as she is not only a performer, but one can also bank upon her to rake in the moolah. Her sheer versatility, the way she adapts herself into a character, hiding her real life persona in a shell for a while, is similar to Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan.
From the soft and helpless girl in ‘Parineeta’ to a revenge seeking woman in ‘Ishqiya’ to a bolder and sexier avatar of ‘Silk’ in ‘The Dirty Picture’ and the recent release ‘Kahaani’ where she gracefully portrays a pregnant woman searching for her husband on the streets of Kolkata, Vidya has surely proved her metal as the most versatile actor in Bollywood.
Being a lady actor and being compared to the three Khans- who any day give shivers to their counterparts, shows that the actress is the next big thing in the industry. Critically acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap has even termed her as the 'true successor of superstar Aamir Khan' - an applause which any actor will gracefully accept.
Considered down to earth and often called the girl next door, Vidya Balan who didn’t have a godfather in the film industry made her presence felt with her power packed performances right from her ‘Parineeta’ days.
After adapting herself in varied roles in movies like ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Paa’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’, ‘Kahaani’ and the ‘The Dirty Picture’, Vidya is now all set to do a sexy item number! Well, some might contest her ability as a good dancer which is a prerequisite for an item number, but one thing is for sure, that even in an item number, she would leave people wanting for more just like has before.
True, she isn't the most fashionable person in Tinsel town but who wants to see a model in a movie? Anyway, we have many who are ‘fashionable’ but can't act.....
And who says that she can’t be a style icon? Vidya is making heads turn draped in those traditional kanjeevaram saris. In fact, Vidya has created a stir with her traditional look and many designers including Sabyasachi Mukherjee feel that she can play a key role in reviving the traditional Indian wear.
Do you need more reasons to love her? Well I don’t, for me she is the lady which any guy longs for. And as she says she is truly ‘Entertainment entertainment and entertainment’. Keep going Vidya!!
