‘How could she?’, ‘Deshdrohi’, ‘Crazy Woman’, ‘Aren’t there any good guys left in her community over here?’, ‘Don’t talk about her, I’m too pi#@$* off with her’… These were the colourful reactions I got upon reaching office the morning after our beloved tennis ace, Sania Mirza, announced to the world that she was going in for ‘holy matrimony’ with ex-Pakistan cricket captain, Shoaib Malik.

I wondered if a similar reaction came from people decades ago when information about actress Nina Gupta’s love-child with West Indies cricketer Viv Richards was made public. Anyways, that was yesterday and this is a different ball-game.

I mean marrying a PAKISTANI? I’ve heard that those guys have horns on their shoulders and eat their wives’ flesh for fun. Or at least that is what I can gather from the shell-shocked faces of the eminently educated people around me. If at all, one has to have an opinion, why can’t we form it on better/different ideologies?

We a
re a species obsessed with each others' personal lives and have a worthless opinion about everything under the sun. Talking about things as redundant as ‘community/caste’, ‘marriage’ or even nationalism in the 21st century, when the world is nothing but a cheap Chinese imitation of the US of A, simply goes out to show that we live in a duality of sorts, where our ‘morals’ and ‘actions’ are two different realms. Face it, we rant more than we deliver or practice.

Coming back to Sania, we really gotta give it to the girl for loving so many, with so much privacy that the media gets a whiff of it only when she wants it to. From childhood love Sohrab to numerous link-ups to now ‘true love’ with Shoaib Malik, she has qualified in my books for being an Asian competitor to Britney Spears. Their career-graphs over the past six years or so are also similar (American influences, heh heh).

Her groom, Shoaib Malik is no stranger to controversy either. The guy has seen it all, dressing room fights, accusations, allegations, public and media ire et al. He’s a Pakistani cricketer after all and these guys know a thing or two when it comes to making headlines. A broken marriage, claims of financially manipulating love for his personal gains and what not are parts of his character CV. With such a colourful past, Sania surely has found a soul mate of sorts in him.

Interestingly, our dear Shoaib is also said to have done a ‘telephonic nikaah’ with Ayesha Siddiqui, another Hyderabad girl. A marriage that he refused to admit to and the façade ended with a similar divorce being issued.

After his unceremonious ouster from the captaincy and in-out status from the national squad, he would have like to be loved, and our Sania is an expert there. He has no World Cup and she has no Grand Slam; their souls might entwine to create some peace for both.

As far as I go, two ordinary athletes who are at the fag end of their careers are getting married for whatever reasons, end of the story.

Now, whether the love-birds actually marry and have a happy-after in Dubai, earning accolades for their respective countries in the realm of sports (true patriots is what they’d like themselves to be remembered as, just like you and I), or they simply move on to greener pastures of love, one thing is certain, their relationship has truly sparked the flames of ‘Aman ki Aasha’ for many and given another reason to bicker for many more.

With so much accomplished by just a marriage, I’d say the people in question have got their money’s worth. Rest as they say, is for all to see and debate and ridicule and imitate and write and gossip and what not.

Pls stop calling her an Ace tennis player... she never was the best.. but in India, as no other women could reach to that place... she enjoyed the attention and glare of the people of India and the media... Now let her marry and let her enjoy her stay in Pakistan and Dubai and than she will realize what she was, and what she is now.... we should not even bother what she does and what she will do...

I am extremely disappointed with most of the comments that I`ve read. Why so much venom? Guys they both have the right to live and marry who ever they choose. I am a proud Pakistani and I don`t hate Indians. Lets face it you can change friends but you can`t change neighbors. Sania and Shoaib have every right to be married. Who the hell are we to decide about their life and we have no right to talk about their past.Have we ever looked in our past?. We all have dirty laundry. Please stop this hatred. It is not gonna help our countries. It has already hurt us many times. Please give love and peace a chance. As a good neighbor to other let us pray for their happy life. lets all pray for peace and harmony between two countries. May be this the beginning of a new era. Insha Allah.

I understand that ``Love is Blind`` and it is beyond the boundaries and teriitories. However a word of caution here. Incase any new Mumbai attack or Kargil sprang up, Sania Mirza`s House will be the first one to get burnt.

@Simon, NZ. You may be right about a good number of Indians being ``immature and un-educated``. But ``narrow-minded towards people of other cultures`` is a poor generalization. You will probably appreciate that better when you visit India.

Though the hatred between our nations bother many Indians and Pakistanis, we know that there is more to it than the few lines of your ignorant comment.

So grow up! Do some reading and mostly, dont make inferences based on the love affair of two celebrities.

Btw, did you hear about the ``christian, white and neutral`` who was beheaded in Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Pearl)?

Let us not comment on their professional or personal life. Just because we happen to hold a pen/ or a keyboard with `rights to express` that does not mean, we can go overboard.

We all seem to have a negative energy in our blood that lets us to spit the venomous thoughts culminating communal discrimination, forgetting the biggest impacts that awaits us in the long run by nature.
When two people decide to marry, pl. think from broader aspects rather than from communal focus.
IF you have a good heart, just wish them happy married life.

Strange . I visited some Pakistani websites and read about Sania-Shoaib marriage. Nowhere did i come across from the general public such vitriolic,hateful,rancour-filled comments as i have seen in our Indian public. Surely we must be a very revengeful hateful jealous unsporting people on this planet. Or shall we say that we are simply just too immature compared to even to the Pakistani public who have remained so reserved, decent and polite aboiut the whole thing.

I think India(Tennis Authority) should not give Sania a single chance to Play for India if she Married to Pakistani.

Till now she had not given any great movement to Indian Tennis.
And I am confident she will do anything in Future.
She is Just Hype of Media.
She should be Banned to play for India after her marriage.

We should Think first about our Nation.India has given her Name /Fame
I am Proud to be an Indian and I am happy here enjoying my life in India.
Sania has forgotten what Pakistan had done to India in 26/11 attack.

Sania mirza has never played well. You may see her record. Hardly reached upto 2nd or 3rd round. But media had highlighted such that she is the one of the top tennis player in the world. Same time, media had ignored Saina Nehwal. Saina nehwal has 5th rank in world badminton.

Sania mirza loves pakistani, our biggest enemy. We should not sympathy for her.

@Arun. No it doesn`t prove ``her heart is with Pakistan``. To me as christian, white, neutral hoping to come to your country for the Commonwealth Games this year, all it proves is that despite being one of the places of earliest civilisation and culture, there are many people who are immature, un-educated and narrow-minded towards people of other cultures and really need to grow up. To see such biggotry and hate from people in supposedly one of the world`s ``great nations`` is sad.

I really think there are some (in Pakistan as well) who just don`t want to hear any possible good news between India and Pakistan and who stand to benefit from continued animosity.

Sania is a nice innocent girl excelled in sports like tennis where Mullas delivered fatwas for wearing tight shorts and tight T shirt. Mullas were seeing her boobs and fine legs which could be achieved by hard work and hardest game play. I must congratulate her parents and her social circuit in Hyderabad who supported her in the sports and all such activities. It was a shock that her engagement with ANOTHER Mirza was broken. Now since she is marrying a Pak cricketer she will lose all the support of her fans and love and affection of her parents because she will be far away. It is difficult how she will be accepted in Pak society reeking with JeM, Taliban, AL Q, and numerous factions. I think her career will end as soon as she steps in Pakistan. Now history shows that even though marriages are made in heaven they do not last in a HELLISH Pakistan. There are several examples but I do not want quote them as those Indian girls will feel that their wounds opened again and bleeding.

there is no need to take permission from any wife either 1st ,2 nd ,3 rd or 4 th.if u had 4 wife u had to look after every one.what u eat to wear any thing what u give to first wife u have to give same to other also. and why ayesha is crying now.if she want talaq she didn`t get easyly.if a person says talaq talaq talaq so this count only one talaq.she had to wait for month cycle.than 2 nd.than another month.than the 3 rd.why wait so much she can take khula.this is right way 4 her.if she prove her marraige.

The Ad guys need to put their ears to the ground and feel the pulse. SANIA IS NO LONG A DARLING. There are more people swearing at her for dumping a local Hyderabadi guy for a frikle minded Pakisthani . So the next time you have Sania on an Ad people will turn away, even muslims.

My dear Hindu Frnds, (Arun) Your comment on muslim is really wrong, The way you written here about muslim, If some muslim guy writes a comment on hindu thn how you fee, please try to understand guys, You hindus usually says, if you are not happy then go to your Pakisthan, why are you staying in india, but you had ever thought when some one says in the same manner, Boss india is my country, its ruled by our muslims, go and serach for histories, you are created a stories of your gods, whts the population ratio of hindus all over the worls, we have alot of things to think,

ex: As iam an indian I love cricket, I love Sachin &amp Ganguly, but In india team I dont saw a fighting sprit for winning the game, where muslim love fighting instead lazy ness,

its a reason where we like Australia &amp pakisthan,

interesting read, and i i agree with some of what is written here. one of the greatest issues pakistan and india have as neighbours is categorically judging each other based on their nationalities - these two are just well known folks who get their share of media attn. to say indian this or,pakistani this is just planin petty. lets just sit back and enjoy where this goes from here :D

This a made for each other match, she is a conceited brat, overhyped by media and overrated by common folks, and Shoaib, a dumb nitwit who believes that the whole world loves Pakistan and Muslims all over the world rejoice every time Pak Wins. Nothing can be more stupid. Good riddance. Hope the media covers their imminent ``Talaq`` as well.

I Like it.... very true.

I was not only shocked but felt she should not be allowed to represent India anymore.

I agree any one can marry any one, but they have repeatedly made it claer that she want to represent India in Olympics
