Some things never change. When Sachin arrived on the world scene and donned the India cap as a shy boy in 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi, the expectations of the people from him were enormous from day one. It has been a lifetime since then. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar still carries the weight of expectations of the billion plus population of this country on his shoulders every time he goes out to bat. Add to that the increased media hype.

No wonder the frenzy and the excitement that has surrounded the impending hundredth 100 from the Little Master is expected. When Sachin got out at the score of 94 in the first innings of the third Test against West Indies, naturally it was met with disbelief and shock from the crowd at his home ground.

The reaction of the crowd was such that the bowler who took Tendulkar’s wicket Ravi Rampaul said later, “I got the feeling that I was the villain as soon as Sachin went. When I was back to the boundary, I got abused in a way but
that’s how cricket goes. I know I have let a lot of Sachin’s fans down and heartbroken.”

Nonetheless, the spectators at the Wankhede stadium recovered from it soon and gave an emotional send off to the man who has enthralled them for over two decades. A standing ovation to Sachin was probably the cricket lovers way of telling him – the 100 will come, sooner than later – you don’t need to prove anything to anybody anymore – we thank you for the happiness that your sublime batting has given us.

The people of this country want Sachin to reach the milestone as soon as he can because it is a summit that no one has ever climbed and everyone wants to experience the pride that comes with an Indian reaching that special place.

Sachin himself must be eager to reach the pinnacle as soon as possible for various reasons. He must ardent to do it for himself, for his family, his fans and for his country. Moreover once the number is out of the way he can go ahead and enjoy the cricket left in him. After all, he is human too.

Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar said during the course of the recent series, “Sachin should quickly get the monkey off his back.” To which former India captain Ravi Shastri replied on a lighter note, “The monkey has grown into a gorilla now.”

Sachin has now gone 16 innings including the one-dayers and Tests without scoring a century. This was the 10th time that the master blaster had got out in the 90s in Tests. The last time was when he fell for 91 at The Oval against England in August. He scored the 99th ton against South Africa during the World Cup on March 11, 2011. He has 48 tons in the ODIs and 51 in the longer version of the game.

Post Script: Scoring the hundredth 100 will not make Sachin a bigger legend than he is now. His genius and greatness has already been immortalised. The hundredth 100 will come. It is just a matter of time. So let us stop the frenzy that is build up every time that Tendulkar goes out to bat and just sit back and enjoy his game.

we don`t need his century. hee need to leave now. i bet he `ll going to make a political party. most selfish cricketer in the history of cricket is mr. tendu. frankly speaking, sometime i doubt about our world cup win. i.p.l did it magic with srilankan, west indien, british players. and about our semi final win, why pakistani govt. awarded with millions after their loss?. why politics involved in cricket?. why kevin, piterson, morgan, broad left the wc tour with minor injuries?. dilshan claim about wc final also have point. why pakistani played without akhtar. we buy world cup for sachin. after world cup 3 white wash, shame shame. and sachin is still shameless not retired.

sachin is legend it may be 100 th or 1000 th century . media should not panic and use this type of issue for trp. all records will be broken . don bradman had 99% strike rate in test cricket because he failed to take a single run in his last inning which is required for 100 % strike rate . what is this ? is this make the greatness of don bradman less.
sachin is great ,he make 99 , 100 ,150 ....centuries , he will remain the great.

to all those idiots wanting sachin to move on, look at the stats. get someone to score better than him in his position and then get him to move on. unlike ponting whose average is less than 30 for the past 3 years, sachin has managed well above 50. and in the world cup he was the 2nd highest run scorer. so back of idiots for once in your life think intelligently.

i will repeat what i said when a few years ago armchair critics were suggesting that sachin should retire cos he was going to a slump in his career - `just leave the man alone`. he is too honest a cricketer to know when he has to call it day and he will when he feels the time is right.
sachin silenced all critics by playing better these past couple of years than he has ever done!
same goes for his 100th century it will come when the time comes. just leave him alone!!

boss already got the tip from italian to support in next election 2014 we will give u bharat ratna.

all are corrupt. they play for themselves not for the country. you can see any test or one day this sachin played whenever india needs his support he will not show the performance. he shows the perforance for his record he is selfish player creating hurdle for young player waiting in list..

sachin will definitely score a ton very soon. but irony is that, he will never get a best time to good-by cricket, as he left the most enjoyable time of world cup win.

every player has his day. sometimes one shines, at other time any one else clicks. the number of opportunities given to sachin are more than any one else. he seems to be becoming a liability now. while a or b or c are hitting easy centuries, why can`t sachin? if he has lost his confidence or rhythm, why does bcci not any fresh player a chance ? we are really not sports people, we think and act in a biased way.

there are greater players other than sachin like dravid, sehwag etc,who deserve more attention and apppreciation. sachin time is out.i do not think a billion plus people expecting this 100th 100. this extra 100 is not going to change anything for cricket excdept a personal record for sachin himself. let him play normal and make cotribution for winning matches and series.
