Will BJP be able to give India a corruption free govt?

Just a day before Nitin Gadkari was re-elected as the national president of Bharatiya Janata Party on September 28, a non-governmental organization, India Against Corruption released details of allegations against the man of the moment by one of its volunteer and whistleblower Anjali Damania.

Damania alleged that she was rebuffed by the BJP leader when she met him to seek support for her campaign against corruption in irrigation projects. Gadkari apparantly told her that he knew Sharad Pawar ‘very well’. Following her allegations, Gadkari slapped a legal notice on Damania seeking a public apology from her for “slandering and defaming him”.

The Congress-led UPA government has been fighting a perception battle on corruption for a long time now with CWG, 2G and coal scam leading to a dent in its image. In such a scenario what are the options before the people of India – The saffron party or a Third Front? With fresh corruption charges against the BJP president
, can the 'aam admi' trust the main Opposition and vote it back to power in 2014 General Elections?

Although senior BJP leader LK Advani hit out at the UPA government, saying it would not survive till 2014 and that the government is sick and is in ICU, can BJP and Nitin Gadkari project themselves as a viable alternative and a non-corrupt party in front of the electorate?

BJP amended its constitution enabling the party president, state and district unit chiefs to get a second term, which paved the way for Nitin Gadkari to seek another term for the top post after he completes his present tenure in December. It is said that the RSS was keen that Gadkari be given a second chance.

Some say that the BJP president, who was propped up by RSS after the party's dismal performance and second consecutive Lok Sabha defeat in 2009, has improved the party's prospects and style of functioning. However, a host of allegations and charges accusing him of colluding with his aides for financial gain has not helped the image of the party who is eyeing to come back to power.

A case in point is Gadkari’s close confidant Ajay Sancheti who is alleged to have been allotted coal blocks in Chhattisgarh at the behest of the BJP president.

The saffron party has not let Parliament function ever since coalgate broke out, as a result of which the Monsoon Session was washed out. The main Opposition was persistent in demanding Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation saying that he had no moral right to continue as head of the country.

However, morality cannot have double standards - Something that the BJP has been accused of for a long time now. Remember, the Karnataka episode where BS Yeddyurappa was removed only after it had become untenable for him to continue as CM given the revelations in the Lokayukta report pertaining to the mining scam.

Recently, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister also came under scanner for practicing double standards on the issue of coal block allocations. But ironically he has been targeting the Prime Minister saying that companies were allocated coal mines in his state without recommendation from his government.

Surprisingly the scenario now is such that it is not just the Congress-led UPA government which is mired in a series of scandals, the Opposition too seems to be hands in glove with the monster called ‘corruption’.

Can BJP leaders who have been hitting out at the Congress, say honestly that their party will be able to give India a corruption free government in 2014? Does BJP still hold the moral right to target the UPA government? It seems that in the next elections people of India will have to choose the right path between two wrongs. So who will form the next government at the Centre, will it be NDA, UPA or the Third-front? As they say – Only time will tell…

let any party come into power, they will come with a few cans of room freshener. there will be fragrance all around for sometime and then the same old miasma of decay would return. they must remove the cause, but not the effect.

it is important to give them a chance at center while we can see the states governed by bjp & worse hollow than the overall india and moreover they failed as perfect opposition instead they are creating mockery of the political institution.
let them make a single state free of corruption & communal (basically i prefer to say this as criminal & anti national activities) & remove all criminals from the internal group / body, whether it’s modi & co. or thakre & co., then let’s talk bjp as replacement of congress or a choice as central govt, otherwise congress is the only option as we see in delhi (state govt).

there are a few who say that stealing is stealing whether it is 1 rupee or 1 lakh 86 crore rupees. it would be prudent to ask ourselves if the punishment is the same. if it is not, then bjp is the obvious choice.

it is a wrong argument to say that only such a party should replace the corrupt congress party which can be 100 % corruption-free otherwise congress is ok. we must realise that a strong defeat of congress itself will teach a big lesson to political parties to learn to work honestly. on this argument itself, bjp must be given power in the next elections. even otherwise also, we can make a reasonable assessment that the NDA government under Atal ji was much better and the present BJP and NDA governments in various states are giving governance which is much better than congress rule anywhere. it is only the anti-bjp persons in media who try to suggest again and again that bjp is as bad as congress. people must unite to throw congress out and bring bjp again for better future of india.

dear ms. dutta, i perceive that it is of no use to discuss this issue in relation to any political party because we should understand first the cause of corruption in the country which is only ``population``....as population increases more would be the corruption....this is simple economics demand & supply theory. people says let us bring annaji/ kejriwal and vote for their party, but in my opinion they are incapable to handle such a big complex democracy and can only waste individual`s valuable votes and ultimately benefits rural or small parties like sp, bsp, jd etc etc...so we should think and vote very sensibily to bring one party with the majority in the centre to improve the current situation....constitution should be amended and their should only be two political parties in the country like usa & many other big nations.

i never agree that politicians are corrupted. they
are representatives from people, if you remove a so called corrupted politician another one would be replaced from where? from the same people. politicians are forced to do corruption by the people so they do. people approaching politicians on the ground as relation, as same community,as sharing same city, as friend and as a influenced person in another field which may required as help by the politician in future. if that politician refused to do favour he is subject to lose the goodwill of approached people and consequently it will affect his future carrier. so what he will do? practically if anybody seeks help of politician to complete a task it is very clear it is not accordance with rules and regulations. corruption starts from the common people.whether it is bjp or congress or any other politicians are basically good and longed to do service to common public in their beginning of their political journey but gradually modified by the people for the people to the welfare of the people and not for the nation.

Every indian does corruption and every indian wants corruption to remain so that he can any time take undue advantage if he has money or political connection. even while you go to a public hospital to visit one of your relative or friend you have to bribe the peopl there. every one studying in college wants to become ias. what is the prime motive for such aspiration.? because it is a powerful government posting and you could can grow money on every tree that you look at. so how could any party control its millions of cadres from commiting corruption. can sushmitha the author of the blog tell me how she got her indian driving license. by herself or through a broker paying extra commission.? if she says thqat she obtained her license honestly then 99.999% chance she is lying or she has some connections with the local rta office. so while every citizen of india is corrupt or having corruptible intention how could any party could rule india corruption free? just take any road where you could see improper parking every where, platform vendors everywhere leaving no space for pedastrians. do they have any authority to keep their business on the platform. do or can anyone object to the platform business? so with one billion corrupt people living in india there won`t be any corruption free government. very soon indian economy, law and order systems would reach a point of no return like somalia. because no political leader wants to raise his finger against people corruption and they behave as if voter are corruption free. common is there anyone wants to start a political party with a policy of not pointing finger to any corruption of any party and only talk about what they are going to do for the nation if they get elected with alist of steps they are going to implement to plug the holes of corruption, either from a politician, public serant or rich or poor, religon etc. i want to start a political party in that line and don`t care if any one would vote for me or not. i would be happy with my policies if i can get just ten votes as a mp candidate. at leat i would be happy to know that there are ten indians in a constituency. who has got the guts to form such a party and contest in the elections. then we would sit together and discuss how the system and not the human are going to plug the holes in every walk of life.any takers?

very correct that bjp too is not competent to make india corruption free as they too are invloved in corruption at the level they can.you may see the case of karnatka.innocent, helpless & harrssed voter has no alternative but only to vote to andha by slecting from all kanans.the atomsphere of india is of the type where no one can survive with moral in service, business, political fields as in all these field organised corruption has been started due to all existing corrupt politicaly parties meant for providing corrupt free atmosphere.

bjp is branded as ``communal`` by those who themselves deal in communal politics.there have been many communal disturbances in samajwadi party ruled uttar pradesh state in the recent past. but mr. mulayam singh yadav calls bjp as ``communal`` what about 1984 anti sikh riots in delhi where more people died than in gujarat riots and still no conviction to the instigators of riots and they are roaming freely. and only bjp is communal for them and narendra modi is hounded by various investigation agencies and courts for 2002 gujarat riots.this is the yardstick of so called self proclaimed ``secular`` parties.the courts are simply non acting entities for 1984 anti sikh riots in delhi.no party can guarantee ``total corruption free administration. corruption is basically a human weakness. only the degree of corruption varies.immediate conviction and punishment to the guilty should be the requirement for any political leadership irrespective of the status of the guilty.

my answer is no,there is no such party at present even including newcomers can give corruption free government in India.there are many things to look into.the depth of the corruption is so deep that requires a complete attention.the need is not to find a party,a person but today the need is very strong political reforms and complete governance system from bottom to top but who will do this.i think neither any politician or political party can do this nor any indian because many of us carry a double standard character (may be the need of the time).i think our judicial system and constitutional bodies like election commission etc.if they are fear can do this.we have seen many examples in the past that when they involved themselves in any defination there is always a positive outcome.thanks.

Mr Kumar the thing that matters is not that he is genuine or he is serious what matters is that if congress win in UP and forms a govt then will you see Rahul G involved in development or not. SInce last 10 years he is MP from Amethi how many times have you seen him visiting amethi, how many times have you seen him participating in debates in parliament ,how many times he has talked about economical, social development. How much his attention in parliament. When counrty was expecting to get a Lokpal Rahul Gandhi only paid 1 hr visit to parliament and left after just reading out a piece of paper. Except asking for votes in UP, Bihar and TN what he has done. If you remembers something please let us know too. How can you expect an unexperianced person who has never became even a cabinet minister in state govt to be handed over control of largest state of India. I can bet if congress win these elections Rahul gandhi will visit UP next time after 5 years for begging votes again.

mr p kumar seems to have been carried away by perception `created` by certain sections rather than looking into the real issues. if he hasn`t done anything for his constituency, will people be electing him again ? do you feel, he will loose the next election from his constituency ? speaking eloquently and doing business are two different things. do you mean to say, someone who spoke well on certain topic in parliament or elsewhere will be or is doing good to many people. india has multiple issues and one has to be judged on the basis of what is his outlook and proposed action on all these. finding faults is very easy with anyone but you guess better alternative than him in the present scenario in u.p who is doing /or is expected to do more for people of the state.

i have read the comments and agree with those of a few people.
1. india is an over-populated nation and many of them are illiterate. therefore, there is always a divide between the educated and illiterate. hence, illiterate people vote for less educated people like laloo prasad yadav and mulayam singh yadav who learn how to speak and influence people from more educated advisors.
2. over-population is causing acute competition among people and hence people do not trust each other completely. hence there is no community feeling, but only a feeling of ``how do i get ahead of others? by hook or crook.``
3. the constitution of india was written by ambedkar who did not participate in india`s freedom struggle like gandhi, nehru, patel, tilakm bhagat singh etc. he simply copied and pasted parts of british constitution and amended other parts to call it indian constitution, it`s a 11,000 plus pages document and no one really understands fundamental rights and no one knows when the politicians are violating them.
4. although our judiciary has done a decent job, our law and order machinery (police) have betrayed people by acting as stooges of politicians, by failing to be loyal to people and also failing to protect the fundamental rights of people. regardless of whether it`s godhra riots or mumbai riots, police only do what politicians ask them to do or not to do, without having a sense of duty to protecting the fundamental rights of citizens. also organizations like cbi which only do the govt.`s bidding at all times must be disbanded altogether and be provided training on being loyal to people, not politicians.
5. last but not the least, people of india have tolerated corruption for so long that politicians do not believe that people like anna hazare and arvind kejriwal have a chance to win any mandate from the people. as aristotle rightly pointed out, people only get the leaders they deserve.

comments are almost a fact/reality as mentioned by soundara rajan - sydney , and by s.s.vinekar - mumbai, but i would ask myself who is corrupt, its the politicians, government employee or i, myself, who allowed myself to go beyond for that extra penny to buy a tv, refrigerator, house, land or life style, luxury.. who is corrupt and how it started !! but i must admit that in government - congress is the root cause of corruption in india started just after independence.
thanks

both congress & bjp are chips of the same block. colgate, gujarati brest, karnataka mines, allocation of mobile bands are few examples where both parties have indulged in illegal business practices. the youth forum without political inks is the only hope, and well it is in offing.

mr hazare has emphatically declared that he would not form a political party or join any other political group. ``for the last 20 years, i have been part of civil society movement and in future also i will remain so. we have parted ways but our goal is the same,`` he has said in his latest blog post.keeping the above comment in the mind,i`m sure, no political party will be able to give a clean governance, be it be bjp or any one else.
