Bollywood’s Aamir Khan is China’s heartthrob and here’s proof

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has an ocean of fan following in China. The Mr Perfectionist of Hindi Cinema created waves at the Chinese Box Office with Dangal last year and is sizzling again with his home production – Secret Superstar – these days.

Indian movie industry tracker Ramesh Bala shared some interesting updates with his followers on Twitter.

On Tuesday night, he posted: “#SecretSuperstar in #China overtakes Japanese animation movie #YourName to become All-time No.2 Non-Hollywood foreign movie there..

@aamir_khan 's movies #Dangal and #SecretSuperstar are the No.1 and No.2 Non-Hollywood Highest Grossers in #China (sic).”

Aamir starrer Dangal was inspired by real-life wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters – Geeta and Babita. The film also featured Fatima Sana Shaikh & Zaira Wasim (as the older and younger versions of Geeta Phogat respectively), Sanya Malhotra &  Suhani Bhatnagar (as the older and younger versions of Babita Phogat respectively) and Sakshi Tanwar.

Dangal, a story based on wrestling woven with the tale of a father’s struggle to make his daughters excel in a sport generally dominated by men, won millions of hearts in China.

On the other hand, Secret Superstar, which had Zaira Wasim essaying the protagonist narrated the story of a young aspiring singer who doesn’t find support from her father to pursue her passion. She follows her dreams with her mother’s support.

Now, Dangal and Secret Superstar have occupied the first and the second spot on the list of Non-Hollywood Highest Grossers in China.

Hearty congratulations to Aamir and the entire teams of Dangal and Secret Superstar.
