Govinda-starrer Rangeela Raja release postponed indefinitely

New Delhi: Former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani and classic actor Govinda teamed up for comedy film titled 'Rangeela Raja', which was scheduled for release on December 7. However, the film ran into a controversy after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) raised objections over some of the sexist and vulgar content in the film, and recommended 20 cuts for the Govinda starrer.

Their biggest concern of CBFC for the film is that one of Govinda's characters is shown as a perverse character, who is unrepentant in his actions and therefore the movie would give a wrong message to the children.

In the latest, the release date of the film has been postponed indefinitely as the makers have not received the censor certificate and the producer is appealing against it with the FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal). The new release date will be announced only after the FCAT order.

The Govinda's comeback film also features Shakti Kapoor, Digangana Suryavanshi, Mishika Chourasia, and Anupama Agnihotri.

Ironically, Rangeela Raja producer is Pahlaj Nihalani who made headlines during his reign as the Censor Board chief for two years. As the CBFC chief, Nihalani had faced flak for raising an objection to the word 'intercourse' in the promo of Anushka Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and also for refusing to clear the women-centric movie 'Lipstick Under My Burkha'.
