Mumbai: Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor starrer "Mubarakan" enjoyed a good run at the box office, but director Anees Bazmee is not too happy with its earning.

"Mubarakan", a wedding drama, opened in theatres on July 28 this year and went on to rake in Rs 77 crore worldwide.

"The commercial success of a film is definitely important. I do feel 'Mubarakan' should have done much better business. The release date of the film also plays a crucial role. There were two big films that released after 'Mubarakan' -? 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' and 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' -- then naturally the business gets affected.

"I feel business-wise our film has underperformed, it could have done better," Bazmee told PTI.

"Mubarakan" will be premiering on Sony Max on December 23.

"My films are usually family entertainers like 'Welcome', 'Singh is Kinng', 'No Entry', 'Ready' and others, which everyone enjoys. The appreciation is always more when the film comes on TV. I am happy 'Mubarakan' is coming on TV and I am hopeful those who have not seen the film will love it."

The director thinks with every film he has matured and that is why whenever he revisits his movies he feels that he could have done a better job.

"Mubarakan" is the story of twin brothers (played by Arjun) who turn to their eccentric uncle (Anil Kapoor) for help to make sure that they each marry the woman they love.

The film also boasts of some talented actors like Ratna Pathak Shah, Pawan Malhotra and others.

"She (Ratna) is a brilliant actress. I had worked with Naseeruddin Shah in 'Welcome Back' and I met Ratna ji at that time. When I approached her for the role, she liked the part. I feel lucky that a celebrated actress like her said yes immediately.

"She picked up the Punjabi accent and culture beautifully. She is one such actor who takes a performance to a different level."

Bazmee said his producers want him to make a sequel but he will only move forward if he has a good script.
