Mumbai: Real life PadMan – Arunachalam Muruganantham – who invented low cost sanitary pad making machines to produce affordable napkins for women in the rural belt, is extremely overwhelmed as a film based on his journey is all set to hit theatres today.

The social activist, who has also been instrumental in creating awareness about menstrual hygiene, took to Twitter to express his sentiments and also thank Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna for telling his tale on celluloid.

A day ahead of the film’s release, the Padma Shri awardee posted: “It’s going to be an emotional day!  @akshaykumar @mrsfunnybones @sonamakapoor @radhika_apte @pcsreeram @ItsAmitTrivedi @PadManTheFilm #PadMan (sic).”

Twinkle responded to Muruganantham by tweeting, “I am getting all emotional myself-reading this as I sit outside the screening where friends are watching Pad Man for the first time! Thank you for trusting us with your story @murugaofficial - It has been an honour to be part of your journey (sic).”

Directed by R Balki, of the Cheeni Kum and Paa fame has helmed the film which has been jointly produced by Twinkle Khanna, SPE Films India, KriArj Entertainment, Cape of Good Films and Hope Productions.

Also starring Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor, PadMan will narrate the struggles and the subsequent success tale of Muruganantham through Akshay’s character in the film.

The film was initially slated to release on January 25 but was postponed after the makers of the much delayed Padmaavat requested the producers of PadMan to push its release.

Today, finally, PadMan is all geared up to make a splash on the silverscreen.
