Shahid Kapoor won’t attend Padmaavat success bash – Here’s why

Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor, who played Maharawal Ratan Singh, the protagonist in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, will not attend the film’s success bash on Saturday. The Udta Punjab star has reportedly flown to Delhi join wife Mira and daughter Misha, who have been in the capital since last week.

Reports suggest that Shahid will be flying to Amritsar tomorrow to visit Beas for a few days. He will attend a Satsang by Radha Soami sect on his birthday – February 25.

According to a report in Mid-Day, a source said, “It was planned weeks in advance that Shahid would celebrate his birthday (February 25) by attending a satsang in Beas, with his family. But when he was invited for the Padmaavat party earlier this week, everyone assumed he would attend the bash and head out to Beas the next morning.”

His absence is bound to trigger rumours of a rift between him and the rest of the Padmaavat team – Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Not too long ago, Shahid, during an interview had said that he felt like an outsider on the sets of Padmaavat. For the unversed, Padmaavat was his first film with Bhansali where both Deepika and Ranveer have worked with the director in two films – Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela – and Bajirao Mastani.

Moreover, though Shahid had a very impressive and powerful role to play in the film, it was Ranveer’s performance as Khilji that stole the show.

Shahid will be next seen in Shree Narayan Singh’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which also stars his Haider co-star Shraddha Kapoor besides Yami Gautam.
