Mumbai: Japanese carmaker Nissan on Tuesday unveiled its new premium compact SUV Terrano and said that the new vehicle would be rolled out during the forthcoming festive season.
"Terrano marks our entry into the compact SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments here. We expect Terrano to hit the road around second half of October," Kenichiro Yomura said after the unveiling here.
Pre-bookings will commence from next month at select dealerships and it will be priced at under Rs 10 lakh.
Yomura said the Terrano, based on the design language as of its Pathfinder and Patrol SUVs, is developed specifically for the domestic market and is produced at the Chennai facility.
"We are confident that Terrano will appeal to both SUV lovers and those looking to graduate to SUVs," he said.
Nissan, which is already producing its compact car Micra, mid-size sedan Sunny and the multi-purpose vehicle Evalia from Chennai, has already announced that it would expand its product portfolio to 16 by 2016 and has set a target of cornering 10 percent market share.
