A bigger Nano likely to be Cyrus Mistry’s revival plan

New Delhi: Although Nano could not live up to the expectations it stoked on launch, Tata Motors, now under Cyrus Mistry, appears to have not yet given up on the big dream and is, reportedly, planning to take the small car a few notches higher.

The big plan being worked out at Tata Motors is to give the Nano a bigger heart with a 1-litre engine to take its rival 796cc Maruti Alto head on.

As per the Hindustan Times report, Tata Motors also has plans to roll out a sedan version.

Citing sources, the newspaper said, Tata had been working on a 966cc version to replace the Nano’s 624cc engine. The report further said that Tata Motors also plans to roll out a version of the car with a boot.

The car was launched with an initial ex-factory price tag of close to Rs. one lakh for the basic model while the current ex-showroom price in Delhi is in the range of Rs. 1.55-2.16 lakh.

Tata Motors has sold more than 2.2 lakh units of Nano since its launch; sales grew by 5.8 percent in the last fiscal ended March 31, 2012 to 74,521 units.

One week back i bought a nano as a seccar Initially my wife and daughter were against due to its image Now they started appreciating its plus easy and fun to drive, comfortable seats, compact size, mileage, looks etc Minus is ride and NVH Please improve NVH, ride and a little bigger enigne and more storage with these changes even with higher price it will sell more than alto-Kannan -chennai

Now that Nano is going for a bigger version, it is timme to convert the new model into an electric oneHowever efficient the car could be, as long as it is petrol, the question why not go electric always appears in front of usHence efforts should be made from now on itself so that withthin a reasonable period an electric car of own design or collaborated design could come out-venkataramanaiah ramu -bengaluru

Dear Mr C Mistry, i m owning a tata nano since april, 12 it is doing very fine and people asks me about its performance and are impressed with it you need not to change it as time passes by the buyers will increase in volumes Tata nano has still some negative image on average car buyers One more thing please use quality material in tata nano and also make a boot that open from outside-Pankaj Kumar -New Delhi
