SUV carmakers to recall 4,69,000 models over gearshift flaw
Washington: SUV maker Chrysler Group LLC is reportedly recalling a total of 4,69,000 models following discoveries that their circuit boards have transmitted signals bringing about gearshifts to neutral positions.

The automakers have revealed that 2006 to 2010 Jeep commanders and 2005 to 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokees are the defective models, the Fox Business reports.

The report said that the affected models include 2, 95,000 Jeeps in US, 28,500 in Canada and 4200 in Mexico and remaining 1,41,000 outside North America.

According to the report, the Chrysler group has acknowledged 26 accidents and 2 injuries but no deaths as yet.

The recall remains the largest so far since Chrysler’s previous recall of more than 9,00,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty SUVs worldwide as they had faulty airbacgs that could deploy inadvertently.

The report further said that the company has assured that it will directly contact affected customers and make the repairs at no cost, adding that though the firm suffered a steep drop in quarterly profits last month due to a new-vehicle launch schedule, it is hopeful that the second quarter this year would fetch bigger amounts.
