Diaz accepted `Knight & Day` to battle depression

Cameron Diaz admits she accepted the offer to appear in movie `Knight and Day` to battle the grief of her father`s death.

London: Cameron Diaz admits she accepted the offer to appear in movie `Knight and Day` to battle the grief of her father`s death.
The 37-year-old actress is paired opposite Hollywood hunk Tom Cruise in the James Mangold`s directorial venture. Diaz was devastated when her father Emilio died of pneumonia in April 2008 during the filming of `My Sister`s Keeper`. She admits that she took the role opposite Cruise because she was desperate to have some "fun" afterwards, Contactmusic reported. The A-list actress, who signed the movie in dire need of relief, feels that her decision was right as her involvement in the movie helped her to stay aboard during tough times. "I`d spent a year in grief with my family and I just wanted to have some fun and go on a great adventure. I wanted to spend some time just having a laugh without it being something heavy," she said. The blonde actress admitted she always chooses movies on things she likes, rather than there affect on her career. "I`ve always made movies for my own pleasure. I`ve never made decisions based on any sort of trajectory for my career," she added. Diaz plays the lead character of June Havens in the film who finds her everyday life tangled with a secret agent played by Cruise. The agent realises the danger of losing his life in his last mission and subsequently finds Diaz as his only confidante to stay alive. PTI
