Kolkata: An exhibition showcasing the paintings 26 contemporary Indian artists welcomed spring in the city Friday.
"This is a unique initiative that brings together so many noted artists. The time is perfect for such a vibrant art show," said Alokananda Ray, noted dance educationist and choreographer while inaugurating the `Festive Spring`. The event showcases work of masters like MF Hussain, SH Raza, Akbar Padamsee, Paritosh Sen, Krishen Khanna, Ram Kumar, Ganesh Pyne, Jogen Choudhury and Lalu Prasad Shaw. On display are 72 extraordinary pieces like Ashok Kumar Varma`s paper collage and Biswajit Roy`s acrylic and wood cut print on canvas. The late MF Hussain`s `Lady with the Hen` (oil on canvas) and his watercolour on paper were crowd pullers. The exhibition organised at the city`s Mirage art gallery saw the presence of famed painter Wasim Kapoor and reputed musician Debajyoti Mishra among others. `Festive Spring` concludes March 24. IANS
