New Delhi: Filmmakers have captured different facets of the capital`s streets, markets and monuments. Now debutant director Sachin Gupta promises to highlight some of Delhi`s unexplored areas through his film ‘Paranthe Wali Gali’.
As the name suggests, old Delhi`s famous bylane known for its variety of paranthas, will feature as a backdrop of the movie.
"The story of `Paranthe Wali Gali` starts from the famous and popular paranthe wali gali and then moves into the lives of the characters. In the film, we are trying to touch that part of Delhi that has not been explored till now. That is the USP of the film," Gupta told reporters, without naming the specific spots where he would be shooting.
A qualified software engineer, Gupta is the founder and CEO of Chilsag Chillies Theatre Company, started in 2003.
Till now, Gupta has done 13 original productions, three broadway shows in New York and he even recently got a National Award - Natya Bhushan - for his contribution to theatre.
Talking more about the film, Gupta says any and everyone will be able to relate to the film.
"It can be considered a romantic comedy, but not entirely. It has various other aspects too. It is a sensitive film and has such an appeal that anyone would be able to relate to it. It would be about me or you or anyone else," he said.
"The international audience would also relate to it as it is about people and friends," said Gupta, who plans to start the shoot of the film here in January 2013.
The 34-year-old Delhi-based director has trained more than 300 talents through various acting programmes.
Gupta is not just helming the project, but has also written the screenplay for it, and is producing it too.
Popular singer Vasundhara Das, who has worked in Gupta`s plays, is the music director and has composed fresh and youth-centric melodies for the album.
The cast of ‘Paranthe Wali Gali’ includes actors Anuj Saxena, Avijit Dutt and Neha Pawar. Every character in the film offers a different flavour, says Gupta.
"Our attempt in the movie is to showcase the characters and not the actors. So I did not finalise A-list actors. Had I made this film four years back, I would thought of taking known actors. But at present if you see the kind of cinema made, having a star does not matter any more," said Gupta.
This works in his favour.
"Nowadays it is all about story and content. As long an actor can deliver what is required a known actor is not really the demand," he said.
