Budget 2012: Securities Transaction Tax slashed Zeebiz Bureau

New Delhi: Providing relief to stock markets, the Finance Minister on Friday proposed to slash the Securities Transaction Tax (STT) on cash delivery transactions by 20 percent.

The measure would see STT coming down from 0.125 percent to 0.1 percent.

Further, as part of Union Budget 2012-13, Mukherjee said that Alternate Minimum Tax (AMT) would now be levied on all persons other than companies, claiming profit linked deduction, in order to moderate the outgo on profit linked deductions.

Also, a General Anti Avoidance Rule (GAAR) would be introduced to counter aggressive tax avoidance schemes. However, a GAAR panel would have the review powers to ensure the rule is used only in appropriate cases.
