Coimbatore: The apex body of knitwear exporters in Tirupur on Tuesday welcomed the Railway budget but said the freight rate should be lowered whenever the fuel charges came down.
The Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) said the sparing of any increase in passenger fare would be beneficial for the hosiery town as a large number of people travelled there for employment.
The Government should not take time in reducing the freight rate, whenever the fuel charges got reduced, as there was the proposal of increasing the rate linking with Fuel Adjustment Component (FAC), TEA President A Shaktivel said.
He also appreciated the announcement for IT initiatives for Passenger benefits and introduction of a Next Generation e-ticketing system to avoid congestion at the IRCTC website.
While welcoming the proposed new trains which would touch Tirupur, Shaktivel, however, said there should have been proposals for more train services between Coimbatore and Bangalore and also infrastructure development in the region.
