Mumbai: Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor, who has all the country’s girls drooling over him, experienced his ‘awe’ moment when he met his idol Lionel Andres Messi on Friday.
Reportedly, the `Rockstar` actor had to face the disappointment of a couple of missed opportunities before he actually met the Barcelona football team’s striker.
A source said to a daily that Ranbir was excited to meet Messi, who was in Kolkata last week for a match.
"Ranbir would have loved to watch the match in Kolkata, but due to his prior work commitments, he had to cancel his plans to meet his idol. The actor had to shoot for Anurag Basu’s `Barfee`, since the slated schedule was postponed due to bad weather. That’s why Ranbir could not attend the match,” the source added.
Incidentally, Ranbir had then gone to Barcelona recently. And that’s when the actor had another bittersweet experience.
The source explained, "He got an invite from team Barcelona. They had heard about Ranbir when they were in and learnt that he is a Barcelona and Messi fan. However when Ranbir met the team members and coach of the team on Thursday, Messi wasn’t present. He was a little disappointed."
Finally, Ranbir got to meet his idol on Friday, when he was invited by the team again. "Messi personally autographed Ranbir’s cap and they spoke at length about their respective fields. They also took his autographs." revealed the source.
When contacted, Ranbir’s brand manager Anirban Blah confirmed the news to a tabloid and said, "Yes he met Messi on Friday. Ranbir is a huge fan of Messi and was regretting the fact that he could not meet him, when he was here last week. They both also represent the same brand but had never met earlier."
