Gold prices recovered by Rs 232 to Rs 31,373 per 10 grams in futures trade early Friday as market participants enlarged their positions in tandem with a firming trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in October rose by Rs 232 to Rs 31,373 per ten grams.

Similarly, silver for delivery in September gained by Rs 393 to Rs 51,588 per kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, moved higher today.

Spot gold last traded up USD 4 or 0.29 percent at 1,375.20 an ounce.

In New York, gold for December delivery gained by 70 cents or 0.1 percent to settle at USD 1,370.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX.

Meanwhile, gold prices declined by Rs 330 to Rs 31,420 per 10 grams on lower sales by retailers and jewellers at current high levels.

Silver also eased by Rs 100 to Rs 51,800 per kg on lack of buying support from industrial units and coin makers.

Mumbai

Standard gold of 99.5 percent purity slipped by Rs 65 to conclude at Rs 31,375 per 10 gm from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 31,440.

Pure gold of 99.9 percent purity lost Rs 55 to finish at Rs 31,530 per 10 gm from Rs 31,585.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) shot up by Rs 450 to end at Rs 52,410 per kg as against Rs 51,960 yesterday.

Chennai

Standard gold prices moved higher by Rs 290 to Rs 32,020 per ten grams as against its previous close of Rs 31,730 .

However, silver prices dropped by Rs 650 to Rs 53,575 per kg.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity plunged by Rs 330 each to Rs 31,420 and Rs 31,220 per 10 grams, respectively. It had gained Rs 625 yesterday.

Sovereigns held steady at Rs 25,100 per piece of eight grams in limited deals.

In line with a general weak trend, silver ready declined by Rs 100 to Rs 51,800 per kg, while weekly-based delivery rose further by Rs 110 to Rs 51,650 per kg. The white metal had surged by Rs 1,745 in the previous session.

However, silver coins continued to be asked around previous level of Rs 88,000 for buying and Rs 89,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Futures Trade (MCX)

International markets

Gold ETF

SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, said its holdings fell 0.07 percent to 913.52 tonnes on Wednesday.
