Gold futures paired some of their losses after release of US non-farm payrolls data but was down Rs 217 at Rs 32,001 per ten grams in post evening session of trade Friday.

Appreciation in rupee against the US dollar weighed on bullion prices as it makes imports cheaper.

The rupee today opened at 66 against the dollar from 66.01 previously at the interbank foreign exchange market and touched a low of 66.32. It bounced back to a high of 65 before settling at 65.24, a rise of 77 paise or 1.17 percent.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in October fell by Rs 217 to Rs 32,001 per ten grams.

The yellow metal had hit an intra-day high of Rs 35,074 in previous week.

However, silver benchmark delivery rose by Rs 255 to Rs 54,950 per kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, jumped today after US non-farm payrolls data missed expectations, curbing expectations that the Federal Reserve is set to start paring back its USD 85 billion monthly bond-buying programme.

Spot gold last traded up USD 20.70 or 1.51 percent at USD 1,389.40 per ounce after falling nearly 2 percent to two-week low yesterday.

In New York, gold for December delivery gained by USD 15 or 1.09 percent to USD 1,388 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX.

Gold rose to a 3-1/2 month high of $1,433.31 an ounce in late August on safe-having buying after the United States and its allies looked close to launching an imminent military strike on Syria.

Meanwhile, gold prices recovered by Rs 50 to Rs 31,000 per ten grams and silver by Rs 550 to Rs 54,250 per kg in Delhi bullion market on revival of buying at prevailing lower levels.
