Recouping most part of their losses, gold prices settled down by Rs 54 to Rs 29,820 per ten grams in futures trade Tuesday as market participants offloaded their positions in tandem with a weakening trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in October fell by Rs 54 to Rs 29,820 per ten grams as against its previous close of Rs 29,874.

Similarly, silver benchmark delivery moved lower by Rs 241 to Rs 49,152 per Kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, rose as physical buying at lower prices and technical support helped bullion snap a three-day losing streak.

Earlier in the session, the precious metal was down after US economic data showed slowing growth in US home prices in July and a dip in consumer confidence this month.

Spot gold last quoted at USD 1,323.70 an ounce, up 0.2 percent, after falling over 3 percent over the past three sessions.

In New York, gold for December delivery fell by USD 10.70 to USD 1,316.30 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX.

Meanwhile, gold and silver prices extended losses for the fourth-straight session in Delhi bullion market on slackened demand amid a weak global trend.

While gold fell further by Rs 25 to Rs 30,225 per ten gram, silver lost Rs 85 to Rs 48,940 per kg on lack of buying support from jewellers and industrial units.
