Gold prices moved up by Rs 257 to Rs 29,737 per ten grams in futures trade Monday as market participants created more fresh positions in tandem with a firming trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in December rose by Rs 257 to Rs 29,737 per ten grams.

Similarly, silver for delivery in December gained by Rs 802 to Rs 48,997 per Kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, inched up to near one-and-a-half-week high above USD 1,320 an ounce, supported by expectations the Federal Reserve would hold off curbing its economic stimulus while the United States eyes a more lasting fix to its budget problems.

The yellow posted its best weekly gain in two months last week as bets grew that the Fed would postpone tapering its bond-buying as focus turns to finding a more permanent solution to Washington's fiscal woes.

Spot gold last traded up 0.30 percent at USD 1,322.30 an ounce after hitting USD 1,325.21 on Friday, its highest since Oct. 8. It rose 3.4 percent last week.

In New York, gold for December delivery moved higher by 0.4 percent to USD 1,319.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX.

Meanwhile, gold prices rose further by Rs 240 to Rs 31,890 per ten gram in Delhi bullion market on sustained buying by stockists for the festival and marriage season amid a firming global trend.

Silver also rebounded by Rs 850 to Rs 49,350 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Mumbai

Standard gold of 99.5 percent purity climbed by Rs 165 to finish at Rs 31,130 per 10 grams from Saturday's closing level of Rs 30,965.

Pure gold of 99.9 percent purity also spurted by a similar margin to end at Rs 31,280 per 10 grams from Rs 31,115 previously.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) jumped by Rs 700 to conclude at Rs 49,750 per kg as compared to Rs 49,050 last weekend.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity climbed by Rs 240 each to Rs 31,890 and Rs 31,690 per ten gram, respectively. It had gained Rs 150 in the previous session.

Although, sovereign remained steady at Rs 25,200 per piece of eight gram in limited deals.

In line with a general firm trend, silver ready rebounded by Rs 850 to Rs 49,350 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 900 to Rs 49,100 per kg. The white metal had lost Rs 300 in Saturday's trade.

Silver coins also spurted by Rs 1,000 to Rs 87,000 for buying and Rs 88,000 for selling of 100 pieces on hectic festival as well as wedding season demand.

Futures Trade (MCX)

International markets
