Gold prices extended their early losses in evening session of trade and were quoted down by Rs 189 to Rs 29,659 per ten grams in futures trade Monday as market participants continued to offload their positions, moving in tandem with a weakening trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in December dropped by Rs 189 to Rs 29,659 per ten grams after moving in range of Rs 29,615 - Rs 29,838.

Similarly, silver for delivery in December declined further by Rs 562 to Rs 43,985 per Kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, weakened more than 1 percent today as a rise in equities and a firmer US dollar dented the metal's safe-haven appeal after an agreement was reached to curb Iran's nuclear programme, and as technical selling intensified.

The yellow metal was also weighed down by fears of an early end to US stimulus measures and as holdings in the biggest bullion-backed exchange-traded fund suffered the biggest drop in three weeks.

After a quiet morning session, spot gold fell as much as 1.1 percent to USD 1,229.44 - its lowest since early July - in late afternoon trading.

Meanwhile, gold extended losses for the second straight session by falling Rs 50 to Rs 31,050 per ten grams at Delhi bullion market on sustained selling by stockists amid a weakening global trend.

Silver lost Rs 300 to Rs 45,000 per kg on lack of buying support from jewellers and industrial units.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) declined by Rs 240 to close at Rs 30,425 per 10 grams from last weekend's level of Rs 30,665.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) dipped by Rs 335 to conclude at Rs 45,605 per kg as against last Saturday's close of Rs 45,940.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity remained under selling pressure and shed Rs 50 each to Rs 31,050 and Rs 30,850 per ten grams, respectively. It had lost Rs 500 in the previous session.

Sovereign held steady at Rs 25,200 per piece of eight gram.

In line with a general weak trend, silver ready fell by Rs 300 to Rs 45,000 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 455 to Rs 44,090 per kg. The white metal had lost Rs 570 in last trade.

However, silver coins spurted by Rs 1,000 to Rs 84,000 for buying and Rs 85,000 for selling of 100 pieces on retail buying for gifting purpose in the ongoing marriage season.
