Gold prices continued to trade below Rs 30,000 level by falling Rs 49 to Rs 29,946 per ten grams in futures trade Thursday as some of the market participants trimmed their positions, even a firming trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in December slipped further by Rs 49 to Rs 29,946 per ten grams after moving in range of Rs 29,911- Rs 30,016.

Similarly, silver for delivery in December declined by Rs 98 to Rs 44,081 per Kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, snapped a two-day decline today, as the dollar edged lower and signs of physical demand emerged from Chinese buyers.

Spot gold last traded up 0.4 percent at USD 1,242 an ounce after dropping 0.5 percent on Wednesday. It fell to USD 1,227.34 on Monday, its lowest since early July.

US gold futures rose 0.3 percent to USD 1,241.50 an ounce.

Meanwhile, gold prices fell by Rs 210 to Rs 31,215 per ten gram at Delhi bullion market on sustained selling by stockists on reduced offtake at higher levels amid weakening global trend.

Silver prices too dropped by Rs 480 to Rs 44,800 per kg on reduced offtake by jewellers and coin makers.

Mumbai

Standard gold (99.5 purity) declined by Rs 135 to finish at Rs 30,435 per 10 grams from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 30,570.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also looked down by Rs 140 to end at Rs 30,580 per 10 grams from Rs 30,720.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) slumped by Rs 510 to close at Rs 45,480 per kg against Rs 45,990.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity fell further by Rs 210 each to Rs 31,215 and Rs 31,015 per ten gram, respectively. It had lost Rs 200 yesterday. Sovereign followed suit and shed Rs 100 to Rs 25,200 per piece of eight gram.

Similarly, silver ready dropped further by Rs 480 to Rs 44,800 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 430 to Rs 44,050 per kg. The white metal had lost Rs 510 in last trade.

However, silver coins held steady at Rs 84,000 for buying and Rs 85,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Futures Trade (MCX)

International markets

Spot gold last traded up 0.4 percent at USD 1,242 an ounce after dropping 0.5 percent on Wednesday. It fell to USD 1,227.34 on Monday, its lowest since early July.

US gold futures rose 0.3 percent to USD 1,241.50 an ounce.

Gold ETF

Holdings in SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, fell 5.70 tonnes to 843.21 tonnes on Wednesday to their lowest since early 2009.
