Gold prices extended their yesterday's gains by Rs 189 to Rs 29,306 per ten grams in futures trade Tuesday as market participants enlarged their positions, moving in tandem with a firming trend overseas.

Depreciation in rupee against US dollar also supported yellow metal prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in February gained further by Rs 189 to Rs 29,306 per ten grams.

Similarly, silver for delivery in March moved higher by Rs 480 to Rs 44,640 per Kg.

Gold price in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, moved
slightly higher due to weakening of dollar.

Spot gold last traded up USD 0.80 or 0.06 percent at USD 1,242.20 an ounce.

In New York, gold for February delivery edged up by USD 5.20 to settle at USD 1,234.20 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX yesterday.

Meanwhile, snapping its two-day losing streak, gold rebounded by Rs 255 to Rs 30,755 per ten grams at Delhi bullion market on low level buying by stockists and retailers for the ongoing marriage season.

However, silver remained under selling pressure for the sixth straight session and shed Rs 30 to Rs 43,470 per kg. It had lost Rs 1,575 in the previous five sessions.

Mumbai

Standard gold (99.5 purity) firmed up by Rs 75 to conclude at Rs 30,575 per 10 grams from Friday's closing level of Rs 30,500.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also added a similar margin to end at Rs 30,725 per 10 grams from Rs 30,650.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) hardened by Rs 220 to finish at Rs 44,670 per kilo as compared to Rs 44,450 previously.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity rebounded by Rs 255 each to Rs 30,755 and Rs 30,555 per ten grams, respectively. It had lost Rs 750 in last two days.

Sovereign rose by Rs 100 to Rs 25,200 per piece of eight gram.

On the other hand, silver ready continued to slide by Rs 30 to Rs 43,470 per kg and weekly-based delivery by the same margin to Rs 44,020 per kg.

Silver coins held steady at Rs 82,000 for buying and Rs 83,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Futures Trade (MCX)

Similarly, silver for delivery in March moved higher by Rs 480 to Rs 44,640 per Kg.

International markets

Gold ETF

Holdings in SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, fell 3 tonnes to the lowest since early 2009 at 835.71 tonnes on Friday.
