Gold prices gained further to their one-week high in futures trade Monday as market participants enlarged their positions even a weakening trend overseas. Read more on Gold 2014 Outlook
At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in February climbed by Rs 64 to Rs 29,097 per ten grams after moving in range of Rs 29,012 - Rs 29,145.
However, silver for delivery in March declined by Rs 252 to Rs 44,572 per Kg.
Gold in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, failed to hold its early gains in later part of trade today. In early trade, gold prices hit their highest level in a month.
Spot gold last traded down USD 2.40 or 0.19 percent at USD 1,247.20 an ounce after making a high of USD 1,253.30 in intra-day trade.Read more on Commodity Market 2014 Outlook
Meanwhile, snapping their three-day rising streak, gold prices fell by Rs 15 to Rs 30,200 per ten grams in the national capital on lower demand at existing higher levels.
However, silver managed to close steady at Rs 44,800 per kg on scattered buying support.
In Mumbai, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity traded at Rs 30,025 and Rs 29,875 per ten grams, respectively; while silver enquired at Rs 45,500 per kg.Delhi
Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity declined by Rs 15 each to Rs 30,200 and Rs 30,000 per ten gram, respectively. It had gained Rs 215 in the last three sessions. Sovereign held steady at Rs 25,100 per piece of eight gram.
Silver ready too held steady at Rs 44,800 per kg, while weekly-based delivery by Rs 35 to Rs 44,765 per kg. Silver coins continued to trade at last level of Rs 85,000 for buying and Rs 86,000 for selling of 100 pieces.International markets
