Paring some part of their early losses, gold prices ended lower by Rs 79 to Rs 30,130 per ten grams in futures trade Friday as market participants offloaded their positions in tandem with a weakening trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in April declined by Rs 79 to settle at Rs 30,037 per ten grams after moving in range of Rs 29,930 - Rs 30,340.

Similarly, silver for delivery in May dropped by Rs 989 to Rs 46,205 per Kg.

Gold in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, weakened by over 1 percent on better-than-expected US jobs data.

The US economy generated 175,000 jobs in February, data showed Friday, a modest rebound from two poor months.

Spot gold last quoted down 1 percent at USD 1,337.19 per ounce after making a high and low of USD 1,354.20 and USD 1,329.35 in intra-day trade.

In New York, gold for April delivery declined by USD 14 to settle at USD 1,337.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX.

Meanwhile, gold prices recovered by Rs 240 to Rs 31,060 per ten gram at Delhi bullion market on buying by stockists and retailers at existing lower levels amid a firm global trend.

Silver also recovered by Rs 280 to Rs 47,330 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity recovered by Rs 240 each to Rs 31,060 and Rs 30,860 per ten gram, respectively. It had lost Rs 480 in last three days. Sovereign, however, held steady at Rs 25,400 per piece of eight gram.

Silver ready recovered by Rs 280 to Rs 47,330 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 380 to Rs 47,230 per kg. The white metal had lost 350 yesterday. Silver coins continued to be asked at last level of Rs 87,000 for buying and Rs 88,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

International markets

Spot gold last quoted down 1 percent at USD 1,337.19 per ounce after making a high and low of USD 1,354.20 and USD 1,329.35 in intra-day trade.

In New York, gold for April delivery declined by USD 14 to settle at USD 1,337.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the NYMEX.
