Gold rate today: Latest updates

Gold prices gained further by Rs 338 to Rs 27,379 per ten grams in futures trade today.

Gold prices rallied further by Rs 330 to Rs 27,600 per 10 grams in Mumbai bullion market Friday on strong demand from stockists and traders coupled with marriage season off-take from consumers.

Silver also soared further by Rs 1,635 to Rs 46,950 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Meanwhile, gold prices managed to continue their upward momentum by adding Rs 338 in futures trade today after rallying by over Rs 650 points to regain Rs 27,000-level yesterday as speculators enlarged their positions tracking a firm global trend.

Silver prices also gained further by Rs 430 today after regaining Rs 45,000-level in futures trade yesterday

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), metal for delivery in June contracts traded up by Rs 338 to Rs 27,379 per ten grams. Yesterday the yellow metal climbed by Rs 653 to Rs 27,041 per ten grams.

Similarly, silver for delivery in May contracts traded up by Rs 430 to Rs 45,604 per Kg. The white metal rallied by Rs 2,282 to Rs 45,174 per Kg yesterday.

Gold prices in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, trading higher by USD 9.80 or 0.67 percent to USD 1,479 per ounce today as rising central banks and physical purchases countered tumbling assets in exchange-traded products.

On Thursday, gold posted its best single-day gain of up to 2.5 percent since June last year.

Gold prices sank to around USD 1,321 on April 16, the lowest in more than two years, in a sell-off that surprised ardent gold investors and bulls.

Mumbai

Standard gold of 99.5 percent purity rose by Rs 330 to close at Rs 27,300 per 10 gms from Thursday's closing level of Rs 26,970.

Pure gold of 99.9 percent purity also climbed up by a similar margin to conclude at Rs 27,440 per 10 gms from Rs 27,110.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) jumped by a hefty Rs 1,120 to end at Rs 46,435 per kg from Rs 45,315 previously.

Chennai

Standard gold price moved higher by Rs 240 to Rs 27,735 per ten grams as against its previous close of Rs 27,495.

Silver also rallied by Rs 1,060 to Rs 45,855 from Rs 44,795 per kg.

Delhi

In the national capital, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity held steady at Rs 28,000 and Rs 27,800 per ten grams, while sovereign enquired at last level of Rs 24,350 per piece of eight gram.

On the other hand, silver ready spurted by Rs 1,900 to Rs 47,400 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 1,790 to Rs 45,100 per kg.

Silver coins also flared up by Rs 1,000 to Rs 77,000 for buying and Rs 78,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Futures Trade (MCX)

International markets

Gold in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, slipped by USD 6 or 0.41 percent to USD 1,464 per ounce.

In international markets gold prices sank to around USD 1,321 on April 16, the lowest in more than two years, in a sell-off that surprised ardent gold investors and bulls.

Gold ETF

SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, said its holdings fell 0.25 percent to 1,090.27 tonnes on Thursday from 1,092.98 tonnes on Wednesday to their lowest since late 2009.
