New Delhi: Entertainment tax on films could come down as the union government is contemplating a less stringent tax structure under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said here Thursday.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the Film Bazaar at the 42nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Soni said that filmmakers had been complaining against the inconsistent entertainment tax in different states. "Indian filmmakers are complaining about the high rate of entertainment tax. The central government is trying to bring entertainment tax under one head in GST. Currently each state government has its own tax structure for the entertainment industry," she said. Soni also said that India is keen on signing co-production treaties with countries with deep-seated film cultures as exist here. IANS
