London: Irish rock band U2`s ongoing world tour `360` has become the highest grossing gig in history, beating off competition from none other than the Rolling Stones.
Following the band`s second show at Sao Paulo`s Morumbi Stadium, the gross takings for the quartet`s global tour passed USD 558 million, reported BBC online. With the feat, the group made up of frontman Bono and band mates The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen have cemented their position as of the most successful live acts ever. It is estimated that by the time they play their final show of the tour in New Brunswick, Canada, they will have raked in USD 650 million in total from their international sold out performances. The huge profits dwarf those of the previous record holder, the Rolling Stones and their `A Bigger Bang` tour of 2005-2007. U2 have sold nearly 7 million tickets for their current outing while 4.68 million fans caught Mick Jagger and his bandmates during their tour. On average U2`s `360` tour packs out 63,000 people each show, taking USD 6.4 million. PTI
