New Delhi: PC maker Lenovo Wednesday launched a range of smartphones with price starting from Rs 8,689, expanding its offerings in the rapidly growing domestic market.
It launched six Android-powered smartphones priced in the range of Rs 8,689 to Rs 32,999 targetting youths and professionals.
The China-based company, which claims that it is world's third largest maker of 'smart-connected' devices, had in November last year launched five android-based smartphones in the country, ranging from Rs 6,499 to Rs 28,499.
"Our strategy for India will focus strongly on smartphones," Lenovo Group Senior VP Milko van Duijl said.
"The journey of Lenovo smartphones in India that began last year in November, takes a whole new dimension with the launch of six new power-packed mobile devices, which offer an excellent choice for smartphone buyers in India," Lenovo India Managing Director Amar Babu said.
Each smartphone is designed taking into consideration specific customer needs for Indian market, he added.
"Our retail footprint has grown considerably to 3,000 retail stores, since we launched our first range of smartphones last year. We will continue to expand our reach across India," Babu said.
On the top-end of the range is Lenovo K900, that sports Intel Z2580 dual-core chip processor, which runs up to 2.0 GHz and utilises Intel hyper-threading technology to boost performance efficiency.
K900 has a 5.5 inch display and is equipped with a 13 MP camera. Running on Android Jelly Bean 4.2, it has a 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory.
Lenovo India Director (smartphones) Sudhin Mathur said the company will focus on retailing and increase its outlets to 10,000 by year-end.
Mathur added that each phone in the entire range has been launched targeting a specific customer requirement.
"K series is for customers looking for a cutting edge experience, S series are stylish eye-grabbing handsets, P series targets professionals and the A series is for youths who want a high performance economical handset," he said.
The company has a successful mobile phone business in China, Indonesia, Philippines, Russia and Vietnam.
